95 C280 - Fuel gauge problem

Hi, when I fill up the tank, the fuel gauge doesn't read correctly...mostly of the time (not always)...more in the winter. The needle might jump up and down a few times then settles wherever it wants to. After the tank becomes half full, everything will turn normal.

I haven't got into trouble yet, but I fear one day I'll get stranded on the highway without fuel. What could be wrong? How much will this cost me?

Thanks in advance!!!

That's a notorious problem in 202's. Mine was replaced in the 30K range before I got the car.

Do a search for ...

Numerous previous threas on this issue. There are two fuel sending units that tend to go bad. They are very expensive to replace as the fuel tank needs to be removed from car. Bottom line.... If your car is under Warranty, have MB dealer fix. If not under warranty... learn to live with it.
