HELP!! 1999 c280 starting/idle problem
Hello, Ive only posted a few times on this forum, but I'm lost and cannot figure this damn car out. So I'm going to lay the whole problem out, and pray someone can help me!
I have a 1999 c280. When I bought the car, it would start, and only idle if you held the fuel pedal down. The battery was dead and had to be jumped. Got the car home, replaced battery and wouldn't start. Let me explain what I have replaced to start:
New Battery
New Fuel Filter, and Fuel Pump
New Plugs
New MAF
New plug wires and checked all coil packs
New Crankshaft position sensor
New Camshaft position sensor
fixed oil leak with new valve pan gaskets, and permatex the oil filler breather case.
Checked fuel pressure and it is correct
cleaned and examined fuel rail and the injectors.
replaced vaccum lines that were dry rotted
and cleaned EGR VALVE and line. replaced vaccum lines on it also.
All parts are bosch, or oem. no ebay crap
The car will crank, and sorta start, revs up to 1000 rpms or so, then immediately dies.
occasionally it will hold idle for 2 sec approx. then backfire.
I just took the throttle body off and cleaned it. I found that the little plastic vaccum line that decends from the crankcase breather connector down into the throttle body was broken off and sticking about 1/4 inch down into throttle body housing. Is this my problem????
The only codes that have been thrown into pending or active was p1400, p0110 and p0450. I changed the MAF, and it was erased of code line, the egr code was erased, now the only code left is a evap emmisson control system sensor failure. But this code doesn't effect engine or start.
It also smells like it is flooding when you try to start. The throttle body had a mass amount of carbon buildup on inside butterfly valve.
Please someone help me!!!
if someone thinks its the throttle body, I'm relieved!!!
if something else, I'm going to go crazy!!
Thank you!!!
Steve

This is only a thought, but try an accelerator pedal reset. It could be the throttle body. I assume you cleaned it, and the small vent was cleaned where the hose is connected to the throttle body.

how do you do a accelerator pedal reset?> I'm sorry, I'm euro stupid... I can rebuild a gm motor from scratch. These Mercedes are so electronic, I don't want to screw something else up.

Follow these instructions.

Thank you all for your help!!!
I took the throttle body off and found large carbon build up. So I looked into the intake manifold and it was disgusting. So me and my buddy took it off, and we found that the front of the bottom of the intake manifold was blowed out and broken. A 5inch by 3 inch piece of the manifold was broken off, could almost get my fist threw it. It looks like a design flaw, due to a circular weld on it. Went to local junk yard, bought one for 150.00 dollars, and PRESTO!!! I know have a perfect c280!!! Thanks Everyone!!!
