Does a C280 need shocks to be towed or can it just sit on springs?

Does a C280 need shocks to be towed or can it just sit on springs?

I have coilovers on my C280, and i want to pull them off the car but i do not have stock shocks lying around... I DO HAVE THE ORIGINAL SPRINGS. From my understanding, the springs are needed on all 4 corners in order to tow/park the car otherwise it will not even roll. I also understand it needs shocks in the front OR rear BUT NOT BOTH. Which one is it? I will of course have to buy 2 shocks to hold the car up, and I am not sure if I have to get the fronts, or the rears. I heard from a mechanic saying YOU ONLY NEED BOTH THE SPRINGS AND SHOCKS IN THE FRONT, BUT YOU DO NOT NEED SHOCKS IN THE REAR IN ORDER TO TOW/PARK THE CAR. Is this true? Thanks guys

Also, can the springs be installed without the spring pads?
