Intermittent Power Seats

I have a 1998 C230 and have been having a problem with intermittent problems with the driver's seat BEFORE I turn the key in the ignition. Since my wife is much shorter than me, I have to move the seat before I get into the car. Sometime this works OK before I put the key into the ignition, and sometimes I have to turn the car on before moving the seat. I do not see any rhyme or reason to this.

One theory that I have is that the battery is starting to show its age and there aren't enough amps for the seat motors. But that doesn't make sense since the car starts ok and the problem is intermittent.

Has anyone else ever had this problem before?

Thanks!
Jimmy

hahaha! that's funny becuz my wife does the same thing to me whenever she drives my car. for some reason the seat only moves when the door is open. once the door is shut, you have to put the key in to move it.

Haha - at least your seats work sometimes. My power head rest doesn't work at all. It's not important enough for me to shell out $$$ to the dealer though.

that's how all the MB's are...the power seats work when the door is open WITHOUT the key in the ignition. But if the doors are closed, you need the key in the ignition to get the seats to move...strange, huh?

Well, I have to move the seat before I can even close the door. I tried it a couple of times with different doors open. I guess I have a goofed up relay or something. It's not that big a deal, only a little annoying.

Easiest thing to do is unplug the power connector under the drivers seat then replug. Same problem drove me crazy.
