Water pump replacement cost

95 C280 with 88km...

Tapping noise can be heard from water pump for the last few weeks. Finally, yesterday, I saw some clear, sticky fluid dripping through the hole on the bottom oil pan cover. Took the cover off and found the dripping is from the water pump area.

1. How much does it cost to have the water pump replaced?
2. How can I find out how much coolant in the engine? The overflow reservoir shows full.
3. Okay to drive the car to the shop (15 mins drive), as long as I keep my eyes on the temp gauge?

Thanks

DB

The part itself is around $230 and shouldn't be too difficult to do. I'm only
guessing if the temp is normal, you should be ok for a very short distance. It
sounds like you found the problem right in time. Let's see what others can
share on this topic. Good luck.

I forgot to mention

You only have about 4 miles of driving at approximately 40-45mph before
the engine's coolant temp is in the normal range.

I just changed mine. It's harder then you think. You have to move the power steering res and stuff. about a 4-6 hour job.

Car runs like new after i got mine changed.

Took the car to the shop to have new waterpump/thermostat installed. 5 hours of labor ($75.00 per hour) plus parts. Total bill was $520.00. Car run great. The bearing on the old water pump failed, as suspected....

Thanks for the input
