do the doors unlock when you get in an accident?

wife was wondering...why i dont know, maybe she's planning on wrecking the car(s) or something..

but if you were to be in an acceident and knocked unconsious would the car unlock itself upon impact so someone could jump in and pull you out?

sorry for the thought of this but i got to make the wife feel "safer"

I think that they will, but I can't tell you for sure thankfully. I am almost positive that they do.

i remember reading on this forum a couple of times, that Mercedes-Benz and maybe even some other high-end manufacturers have an automatic door unlock feature, that is triggered when the car senses erratic or even violent movement in combination.
For example, a sudden turn of the wheel coupled by a bumpy surface or unleveled road.
Some people even described this occurring during a quick swerve unto an exit ramp, and going over those "wake up you're going to crash" bumps on the edge of the freeway lanes.
I'd have to re-read my manual, to find out more about that feature, or ask a "very" knowledgeable MB S.A., if you can find one.

I know with my BMW's it does, once something hits the car hard from underneath the interior lights will turn on and the doors will unlock.

yes. If you hit a pothole etc hard enough the doors will unlock. When I hit the transition on highway @ 65mph that damaged all my wheels, the doors unlocked.

Yes they do unlock, not like it does any good though (or it depends). Got T-boned by a Buick a couple years back because the guy ran a stop sign and hit me on the driver side door and fender. The door had to be pryed open.

To be quite frank if I saw someone in that condition I would walk to the other side and break a window regardless of the brand of car it was.

Fortunately in Australia we have some states which have adopted the "good samaritan" act of law which means that if you know what you are doing you wont get into trouble for trying to help - or get an invoice for the broken window.

honestly i think it would be quicker and safer to try and open the door first before throwing glass in the unconsious guys face by breaking the window.

wow. this was discussed in another thread like a day ago. no wonder moderators are hell bent on closing some threads early if the answer could be found with a click on search.

I could always open the door and punch the window outwards .......

I was speaking in the general case .....

Even easier in the cabrio, you can climb in, take the ignition key then use the infra-red option to wind the windows down.

well, learn to search correctly. you can narrow down the results to w203 only and get your answer.
