I think he means taking the fake projector headlights and throwing aftermarket HIDs as the bulbs. If that's the case, I hope the projector part doesn't melt as it's meant to look the part but not really handle an HID bulb.

The OEMs havent had any issues yet and they have been in since September. I assume if the OEMs can handle it then the aftermarket ones can too. They look pretty legit and the seller says they are high quality. I just dont know if it is worth it compared to the other options I am deliberating, hence this thread.

Uhh...I knew he wasnt talking about OEM hence the reason why I said $400 and not $900+. And a projector CAN hold an HID bulb...however it does not disperse the light very well and you will not have a clean solid cut off line.

Honestly, it can't be much worse than it is now...it would be mostly for the looks. That is why it is in with spoiler, subs and nav. I take it by the lack of response that the nav and spoiler are unpopular???

Erik, from how I understand it, real xenon bulbs actually burn cooler than halogen bulbs despite the disbursment of light being clearer, so the aftermarket projector headlights may not have a problem with melting.

That being said, I'd go with the lip spoiler instead of the aftermarket projectors.

A nice lip spoiler would be nice but i think that bi-xenon with a 8000K low beam and a 30000K high beam would look amazing. Havent seen anyone do this but i think it would look real tight.

Separate xenon high beams are not a good idea. Xenon bulbs were not made to flash like halogen bulbs.

The reason the bi-xenons are what they are is because of the shield that changes the angle of the light (while coupled with a halogen bulb). With the OEM bi-x, that halgoen high beam is necessary for flashing function.

The aftermarket projectors that are offered that look like bi-xenon lights do not have that shield, therefore, when high beams are used, the angle of the low beams does not change and the halogen high beams have to be aimed appropriately in order to have "good" functionality.

i agree with u erik, my friend wanted to get the aftermarket "nightrunner" black headlight housings for his SRT-10, and he has HIDs right now. The vendor showed him a F150 housing melted because the guy installed HIDs afterwards...it looked horrible

I just ordered the door sills and I may get the Garmin c330 soon because I have a lot of driving adventures planned this summer. I would like the COMAND, but it's $2,000.

Was it the bulb or actually the ignitor that melted the housings? I would think it was most likely the ignitor.

I agree, the igniters do get hot...I have them mounted on the metal beams in the bottom of the engine to keep them from melting anything.
