How can it be single din, in dash, and yet move between two cars?
If your looking for a portable unit I would use this as a criteria for myself:
1. Color Screen
2. Touch Screen
3. Entire Country pre-loaded (no need for a PC, and no loading individual states)
4. It must speak to you, turn by turn.
5. Auto Re-Route
6. You must be able to load destinations without the use of a PC (might sound dumb but Microsoft Streets and Trips for PPC doesn't allow you to enter a destination on the fly, must use PC and transfer to PPC).

I have done extensive research and found that the Garmin c330 and c340 ($100 price difference) are the best units on all of the above features and price. The c330 is about $400 and the c340 is about $500. The only difference is that the c340 can pronounce the street names. I personally don't think this is worth it, but some might. I will be purchasing the c330 very soon, if you can wait, I will let you know how it works.

I didn't like the voice quality of the Garmin products, but other than that - they're really easy to use. The RoadMate's by Magellan aren't bad either, and they have some that are priced really well. Clarion makes one called the NICE that's really cool too, but expensive. I tried several portable units, and I'd still take my COMAND over them any day.
