You are correct in the fact that the subject matter has come up previously. You might want to use the search feature for member suggestions in this and the audio forum.

Hey I have a 2006 also and have STFFF but could not find a straight answer. I also wanted to add speakers to my rear deck. Does anyone know what size fits back there, and how to get to it? My friend with the entertainment package has speakers on his rear deck and it makes a world of difference, mine is just filled with a sponge at the moment.

the rear deck on the sedan c-class holds only one speaker if you have the entertainment package. it holds the sub-woofer (if you can call it that
) i think its a 6" or 8". im not sure you can add speakers back there, and it doesnt seem like a good idea, because if you have STFF the rattle you get back there SUCKS. you are better off adding a amp+sub. and from what ive read on the forum, it is much easier to swap out speakers and adding aftermarket if you have the NON H/K system, heck while ur at it, chaning the HU would help lots, since more than likely the stock HU wont have the wattage to power the aftermarket speakers properly. downside? you'll loose steering wheel controls

I promise you that if you search, you will yield the answers. Remember, threads like this are exactly why it's difficult to search. Reality is that searching for the answers will take QUITE a while. Last time when I did the research, it took me probably 6 hours worth of searching but I got almost all of the answers. Just be patient and like everything else in life, keep plugging away.
If you need answers to certain questions, you can also try PM'ing certain members who have swapped out the factory system. They can guide you to perhaps in what thread the answers are located.
