Installing a new grille

Can anyone give me any tips on installing the new grille? Also, any tips on removing the outer piece from the inner without breaking the tabs? The grille I bought did not have any instructions. Will give it a go this weekend and want it to go smooth.

it's cake. it's like 8 screws (or even less).

you don't remove the inner, unlike the w202, the grill is just one piece, so you unscrew the old one and line up the hood latch and screw the new one in. it shouldn't take more than 5 minutes.

Thanks Phil. That is exactly why I posted. I may have ended up with the first 8 piece grille.

I will post pics of it this weekend or if it only takes 5 minutes later tonight.

Your car is sweet. I am actually going for that look you have in the front (black grille, no star). Thanks again Phil.

thanks man! not a problem...

8-piece grill? what the hell? did you get it on eBay?

if it's anything like the w202 grill with the removable clips etc, it shouldn't be a prob either. that was a pretty easy change too, it was just a pain to get it to line up correctly.

I was just joking about me breaking it into 8 pieces. I would have made it an 8 piece grille when I would have tried to pull the two pieces apart.

I checked under the hood and saw the screws. Seems pretty easy. The only thing that I do not get without taking off the old is how the top actually screws in. I hope there is something keeps it in place.

I got the black one from one of the sponsors. Seems pretty nice. I will post when I do it. I put it up the hood and think it is going to look pretty nice.

Thanks again. Rlee, keep me on the list for the mattig. I got impatient. Something you may know something about based on your own thread! Your car is looking sweet.

This site rocks!

What color is your car?? Pls post some pics after you put it on. It's really easy to put it on like what others have said.

I just took it off and it did not come with the clips so I just had to remove them off the OEM

The surface is smooth since it is not painted. It is molded black in the middle and I guess colored somehow on the outer ring. Definitely not painted. Was going to go your route with the 05+ and paint but worried about chiping.

How much did it cost to paint?

cost about $50 to paint with a few extra coats of clear

you must be talking about these clips:

Why is the grill flat/matt black? Is it a performance thing, no chipping? I think the gloss finish that matches the car looks much better. But to each his own. It still looks better than the stock chrome.

It not a performance thing, it is a durability issue for me. I was not willing to spend money to keep painting it if it chiped. It really looks better than the pic because the flash creates a finish that is not really how it looks. I will post a pic from farther away and out in the sunlight without flash. The pic will draw a post from Rlee to remove the front license plate though

The the growning "Rat Rod" look, painting your car flat black. I would love to paint the entire car flat black. Maybe a skull and cross bones logo on the side.
