Do I have to realign my wheels when I install my winter tires

Folks,

I wanted to find out if it is absolutely necessary for me to re-align
my wheels when I install my brand new winter tires for my C or is a tire balance sufficient. My current car just has 3500 miles on it and the current alignment is dead center.
I just want to avoid the extra cost of alignment at my MB dealer if it does not do much good. If you techies think it is worth it then I dont mind having it performed.

Thanks in advance.

TD

No need for an alignment. Tires alone don't affect the alignment.

Yes, anytime you change tires you likely change the outside diameter and that affects camber. It only necessary for longer tire life and shouldn't do anything odd like pull to one side. The MB dealer will give you a one time free alignment in the first year, just tell them that it pulls to one side and they'll do it.

THE WAY WE ALIGN MERCEDES,THE 5 HOLES IN THE FACTORY WHEELS ARE FOR THE MACHINE HEADS.SO THE ALIGNMENT IS DONE AT THE CHASSIS NOT THE WHEELS.

SO TO ANSWER THE QUESTION ,NO YOU DO NOT NEED TO ALIGN TO INSTALL NEW WHEELS AND TIRES.
PROVIDED YOU HAVE HAD AN ALIGNMENT DONE RECENTLY

Wow! I've always wondered what those silly holes were for! What happens if you put on aftermaket wheels that don't have those holes?

there is a clamping device to attacth to the tire itself,
in which you no longer align the chassis ,,,you align to the wheels

Does anybody know if you need different lug nuts/bolts if you install 16" steels rims (with winter tires)?

Yes, you will need shorter lug bolts. I don't know the size.

I don't have steel rims. Young and (maybe) Tommy do.
