on a side note, I took off the spoiler, got new tape and redid it. it fits even better now and I'm really happy with it.
the old tape was "magic mounts" brand (but the sku said it was 3M) "high-performance" mounting tape that I got from Pep Boys (FTL!!!!) because they didn't have any REAL 3M tape. it was 5/8 in thick. well, I went to Autozone and they had 3M mounting tape that was 1/2 in thick. it works sooooo much better. the 1/8 in less really did make a big difference.
I'll probably post more pics soon.

since the cat is pretty much out of the bag, there's no point in trying to be dramatic about the next mod...
here it is:
Thanks for the frame MJ!
I just need to make a run to Home Depot for washers and then wait for my europlate to come in.
and for good measure, a gratuitous pic:

Spoiler looks great man. I'd like to get one for my car but I can't see spending $300+ for a painted one so I just keep my eye on the classifieds. How much did you pay for yours?

thanks! eBay of course!
I'm actually shocked that you didn't post the pic of the gap that you took.
quattro all-road FTW!

Clean and glossy, Phil. Your paint looks like it’s still wet.
Have you ever noticed how they miraculously seem to perform even better after a proper detail?!
