sorry to say, if you are Canadian, you should NOT buy a Mercedes Benz and think you are going to be treated well by MB Canada. This conclusion is evidenced throughout all of the posts related to MB recalls in general. It's sad to say, because MB makes a great car, problem is that they cost so much for repairs that you have to be able to somewhat count on the company to take care of you, which MB Canada is incapable of. Good luck Canadians.

agreed, MB canada is saying the recalls are passed down from germany., so if were not on the list we are SOL and they will not add cars on a case by case basis... anybody get the harness covered on recall? cuz if MB canada ever does come around mines gonna need a new one..

Why dont you call and be added to the list? Several members here have called MBUSA and been successfully added.

added to what list? i told them of my problem and they said they would "register the complaint" and "recalls are handed down from head office in germany by order of VIN, if your car had that problem you would be part of the recall" so apparently the c230's sold in canada are superior to the ones sold in the US and dont have the same faults even tho they rolled off the same line, lol,(mines and 03, all of which are recalled in the US no?)

I was told the same..... canadian VIN does not qualify because the #'s don't warrant a recall... we are SOL.

Sorry I haven't been on in a while, discusted with MBC.
So in the end MBC reluctantly paid for 50% of parts and 0% labour for the replacement of our wiring harness, ECU, O2 sensors, and cam shaft seal repair... Ended up costing them about $2000 and me about $3700.
Dealing with the coolant leak issue now, my dealer reccomended I have a smaller shop replace my rad (savings of $600) then doubleflush the tranny. we did this and the hard shift did not go away but did not seem to get worse for quite some time. Mercedes solution was a new tranny & torque converter about $7500 installed and no forgiveness. Since that time we have used the car in winter mode but it is getting worse and soon will have to be dealt with, $4500 to have mine rebuilt or try to find a used unit for $1000 then pay the $960 for install is about the best I'm gonna do.... we bought the car less than a year ago for $12K with 65K km, since that time we have spent $4300 and will have to spend another $2000 if we want it to perform the way it should... it now has 85K km.

Mercedes is painfull to deal with, it seems because I have a C class and bought it used at that I am not important to them. My 1995 BMW 318ti I bought with 140K km, ran it up to 285K km over 3 years with just a break job, oil changes and a clutch slave cylinder plus the common power window issue BUT I drove that thing like a race car and not until 287K km did it lose compression on 1 cylinder so I sold it off with full disclosure.
I'm affraid to drive the mercedes as hard as the daughters saturn for fear it might explode.

Just got off the phone with MBUSA and was told my C230K is included in this "open campain" on the oil in the harness issue, mine has this issue. Not to post my VIN but will say my C class was build 03/05 so that will give you some idea compared to yours. They are going to call my local dealer and speak with the SM about what they found on the car when it was there and go from there.

Ok.. just read through this entire thread... i'm not sure if i had this done, so i'm assuming i don't.

my question is:

if there is a hose leak, would i be able to hear it?

basically when i accelerate... i hear this loud sucking noise that sounds like a leak somewhere. i'm not sure if this noise would indicate that i need this hose replaced, OR if its from another problem ("breather hose"? not sure what that is... but i found it somewhere else in a search)

anyone know how to diagnose it from my horrible description?

thanks!

EDIT: just called MB dealer and i did get this done... now i have to figure out what this noise is....

What exactly does this service campaign do for our cars? I read it is about fixing a leak?

Just called on my 2005 C230 SS and gave the SA my VIN - He told me this was an open recall on my car and it would be free of charge to fix so i've got an appointment on Tuesday.

I'll report back if there were any issues and if there is any difference.

Just got the car back with the recall done... am I insane or it feels like the car got a boost in power?

I was activating the traction control for a LONG time on a 1-2 shift... typically I don't ever do that or if I do it's very short (with a eurocharged tune). Engine note sounded slightly different as well (but maybe that's just me being insane).

Does this fix get you more power?

Sorry to keep reviving an antiquity, but I had one last question on this recall. It seems like originally there were two hoses, the vent hose and PCV hose mentioned in this thread. I saw part numbers

271-010-00-82-05
and
271-018-12-82

It sounds like most of the people that had the recall performed just had 271-010-00-82-05 with no mention of the other part number, which is also the case with my car, which had this done before I owned it.

Mine is an '05 as well. Does anyone know the reason why the other hose is mentioned in this post but not performed by the dealer recall?

I've had continual ESP errors from the beginning, and despite the dealer working on it like 10 times, it still gives me errors.
I love the look of that front grill would you please tell what it came off
Many thanks,

Call your dealer with your VIN number and ask if there are any outstanding Recalls on the vehicle.

I've had my CEL on since January and apparently it was because I had an oil leak coming from the faulty solenoid that was running along the wiring harness and into the O2 sensors. My SA was pretty cool and was able to hook me up with 2 brand new O2 sensor modules to be covered under the recall as long as i gave him a 10 on the customer satisfaction review lucky me.

The work done looks exactly like the pictures on ambit's post and the car is running much better now
I took in my 2003 C230 and had the following work done
Camshaft solenoid
Vent hoses
2(two) O2 sensors
2(two) bran new catalyst converters!
All at no charge!

Canada...? I have no idea. Why don't you call the dealer? It's worth a shot. If it applies your liking at 2-5 thousand dollars in free work! My total was $6,000 and I payed nothing because the original 2 recalls damaged so many things! The car might be in the shop for a few days. My car was at MB of Reno for 10 days

Does this recall apply to the '03 C240s. I just had the PCV hose and lower hose replaced several weeks ago.

Oof. Just called MB customer care and they said that the cars involved in this recall should have been worked on. It was done in 08 and since the specific part warranty is only a year I'm SOL
