Easy. Tools you will need:
1. Flathead screwdriver
2. Socket wrench with 10mm and 12mm heads (I think; if not those exact ones, very close).
Use the flathead to pop off the plastic covers on the bottom on the rear bench seat, towards the floor. Use the socket wrench to undo the four nuts, then pull the bench forward and up. Pull back the covering underneath the bench, and in the center you will see a panel with four bolts. Undo the bolts and underneath you will see three steel cables meet at a triangular-shaped device. Use the socket to adjust the nut on that triangular-shaped piece, and keep checking the parking brake until you are satisfied with the result.
In the future, please search for this information, as it is definitely available on these boards.
Enjoy!

My parking brake is disconnected, need some DIY help to re-attach it. The previous times the dealer re-attached it under warranty, since I'm out of warranty I'd like to DIY.
Can anyone help? The adjustment I found before, yet it didn't help, the cable has to be physically disconnected somewhere in the back, then I pull the e-brake I can see the cable tighen at that adjustment area, its gotta be disconnected from the e-brake assembly on the rear hub... yet where is it?

The parking brake pads are behind the brake rotors on the rear. so maybe pull a wheel off and see whats happening. Once it's reattached make sure you get it tightened good with the adjuster under the cover under the seat.
I think the service dvd said you should get 5 clicks total.
I didn't see anything specifically about reattaching cables.
You just need to look and see where the problems is.

My ebrake made a popping noise the other day, and while it works fine there is no click anymore.
The rachet part is hanging down.
I looked up the drawing on epc, thought I'd post it.
As you can see, there are several obvious attachment points that would be the issue if not an adjustment.

There is one 13mm and 2 8mm bolts holdng the cover on. My ebrake emergency / parking started popping and then finally went to the floor while barely holding the car. I attacked under the dash first but I determined I had to adjust the cable so I came in to search the forums.
I opened the access cover to see the line to the passenger wheel came off. I loosened the adjustment, slipped the line back in and tightened it up. Then I hit it with brake cleaner then some penetrating oil to keep it loose. If your parking brake is too loose, this can be a 20 min free job that will make it seem like new.

That assembly has rusted too much on my car and the tension spring broke. I had to order the whole assembly to get a new spring, which isn't a bad deal since all the bolts are rusted to the point of needing replacement after being removed anyways. Sucks that the assembly costs $100, yet my ebrake will be back to new after fixing it.
Oh, and sucks the rust has gotten onto the body, guess I'll grind it off and use rust inhibitor paint so it does not spread much further/faster.

I'm hoping my parking brake issue is this easy to fix, though I'll likely bring it to a mechanic to do. I was backing my coupe up my steep, snowy driveway, and, with the brake depressed, I engaged the parking brake. By mistake, I was still in reverse, so when I shut off the ignition and took my foot off the brake, the car slid down the driveway. I stepped on the brake, put it in park, and all was fine, or so I thought. When I went to move the car, the parking brake would not release. As I'm used to it sometimes not releasing fully, I put my toe under it and lifted it up, but it keeps sinking to the floor. I had hoped that once I got it onto a level road, I'd be able to release it, but so far no luck. FYI, it's currently very cold, wet, and snowy here, with about a foot or more on the ground. I drove to the gym and back with my left foot propped under it; if I relax my foot, the e-brake heads to the floor and the warning lights/sounds (I doubt it would stop or hold the car, but I haven't pushed it). What do you think a (nnon-dealer) mechanic might charge to fix?

If you pop out the back seat, or fold it up as in the coupe,
and lube that attachment point, you may get lucky.
I used WD40.
Mine was sticking and I did that, problem solved.
Adjust it while you're at it.

well, you guys empowered me! I opened it up (a 12mm and a 5/16" is what I used) and it's not only rusty and stuck, but one of the cables leading to the rear wheels had slipped off. I used a lock de-icer (!) to get things moving and I was able to get the cable back in and the pedal off the floor (and the warning light off). I'm going to leave it all open for a bit while i run out for some WD-40, which seems to be the lube of choice. Searching this topic was not as simple as some, as "parking brake" emergency brake" etc yield a lot of stuff. I'd like to draw attention to one post I found HERE that gets to the heart of the matter.
