Only a pleasure. I've learned a hell of a lot from this forum. We all help one another where our strength is.

There is a removeable strainer in the tank - 70.
See 20 for main filter

Thanks!
Filter changed in about 30 mins. Not a bad job.
Now onto a new MAF sensor (throwing code P0100)
The car hesitates and sometimes stalls. I'm hoping the new MAF will fix this.
Do i need to reset anything after insatlling the MAF sensor?
Must I disconnect the battery?
Thanks agian for all your help.

No need to disconnect battery. No reset after installing new MAF. The ECU will calibrate after a short drive.

Glyn, thanks again!
Hopefully we'll get this car straightened out soon.
It sat in a garage for about 2 years. I think i have all the bad gas out of it.
I've been running seafoam cleaner through it as well.
I'll let you know how i make out with the new maf.
Getting ready to order one now.Any suggestions as to where or brand to buy??

Please buy a genuine MAF from someone like RMeuropean. Pirate parts don't work & Audi MAFs look identical but won't work.

I used 4 Clamps with a range of 5/16" to 5/8" purchased a pack of 4 at walmart and they worked like a charm. Much better than those ridiculous clamps that Mercedes puts on.

Squeezin fuel lines
Hi gang. Read with interest your techniques. Be glad you don't have to deal with banjo fittings which put me in a cold sweat even after scores of change outs. A thought on the squeeze clamps to stop gas flow. I have done this often , but recently read a blog on brake lines where over-squeezing can damage the inner lining of the hose and create a hidden check valve. Talk about being driven nutty...just a thought.

My Haynes manual talks about relieving the pressure by removing the fuel pump fuse in the trunk, though I haven't seen anyone talk about this method.

The Haynes manuals on these cars are a bit of a disaster. Please ignore their torque settings. Many errors.

I think you need to relieve the pressure with the schrader valve. It is the pressure between the pump and the injectors that you need to relieve.

Beware of cheap Chinese hose clamps as found at H Frt ( and most places). They have not perfected the locking quality IMO. If you stay after the clamps they do seem to finally lock and not loosen. You do see USA and German makes. Bring extra $.
