There are multiple types of PS fluid for Mercedes. Did they use a 345.0 spec fluid?

If not, then they are going to wreck your power steering system.

For the transmission, did they use 236.10 or 236.14 spec transmission fluid?

My case is similar, today after started my car i noted strange whind noise from the engine. Sound became worse once i tried to move the car and turned left/right. I am in a doubt between power steering or alternator. Last week my car had full check up so i believe the mechanics would inform me if lack of fluids level. Model is C200 2006 Kompressor GCC spec.
Would appreciate any advice
If the noise is from the steering, it's usually easy to tell because it corresponds to moving the steering wheel. As you turn the wheel and steering has to work the noise changes. Squealing sound is a sign of slipping belt, common wear item and easy to replace. If it's more of whirring/whining sound, that is likely internal to the pump. Another sound is like cricket chirping in time with a pulley turning, which is a bearing in any of the pulleys the belt goes around. In early stages, the chirping bearing quiets down as it warms up.

The most common cause of power steering noise is low fluid level causing air entrainment in the fluid. High pitched squealing when turning & especially at full lock is air going through the pressure relief valves. Correct level of fluid is critical.

Happy New Year Guys!

Thank you all for the tips.

Jkowtko, you made me worry as the PS fluid used for my vehicle is pictured in the link below:
http://www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/5010...-000989910310/

I went back to the workshop and guys thought its an air issue or the replaced seals are still tide. After many full turns "left - right" with the steering wheel, and on/off engine they gave me to try and i didnt find any difference. Now i have heavy power steering plus new leak from front left corner which goes over the rim, God knows from where! And i've noted a difference in fuel economy of 8.4 - 9.5l/100km on high way with 110km/h which is almost 1.5l/100km more than before. Engine is 2.0 just.

KSKarl, the sound was mostly like whirring/whining sound so the conclusion was seals and leakage around the pipe there.

Glyn M Ruck, as u said low fluid level was the reason for the noise. If we add PS fluids and sound is gone logically pump is not damaged. After the above mentioned replacement in the forum i got this heavy steering. I guess next time if i visit the garage they will sugest to replace the pump.
I think the best what i can do is to bring the car to MB Garage (Gargash Enterprises) or they will totally spoil my car! Half of the workers had a test drive including the owner!! Imagine the colour of my light beige leather seat now! :/

Sheheresad,
According to Mercedes spec 345.0, one should use: 001 989 24 03 MB fluid,
or Pentosin CHF 11 S.

The one in your link is hydraulic fluid for roof pumps in e.g. SLKs from 2000's.

343.0? That's what shows in the photo of the product URl you sent us. So ... you might be ruining your power steering system as we speak.

You can thank your "expert" auto shop for this wonderful experience ... I would suggest they flush out your system with the correct fluid, repair any components that appear damaged over the next six months, and refund you all the money you have paid them to date.

Hello guys,

I spoke with my workshop regarding PS fluids change. They are about to give up with my car issue because I can feel they have no clue why my power steering is zero.

will update you soon

Did you tell them that they put the wrong fluid in the system, and to please take it out and flush with the correct fluid?

What's amusing is that they have the guts to take customer's money although they don't have the competency to solve the actual issues...

Hey Guys,

I have changed my front tyres recently. I moved to smaller size from 225/55 to 225/45 ZR 17'. Still steerng is heavy but during the change of tyres while front of my car was lifted up, i did few completed turns from left to right with the steering wheel. Was light. After drive of 20 min i though i have my power steering again. I parked the car for 1 hr and when i return to take it, my issue appear again. Let me add i didnt go to change the PS fluids yet. Im sick and tired to see them open my car bonnet again and again...more than 7 times for the past 2 months!

The cheapest thing you can do for starters is to change that fluid. And, using the reservoir repeated-drain-and-fill method you can change out most of it yourself.

Just be sure to buy the correct fluid. Start with one quart of new fluid -- that will give you 2-3 drain-and-fills -- and see if you can feel a difference. If you haven't changed out the fluid in many years (or never) then you should feel a difference. After that point you can decide if it's worth purchasing another quart of PS fluid and doing more drain-and-fills.
