Dyno Results for the c230K.

Here is the result of the dyno.

Max Power was: 160.5 @ 5800 RPM
Max Torque was: 165.1 @ 3600 RPM

I think after my head gasket replacement the car lost some HP. And also it is running very lean. The Air/Fuel Ratio should be around 12.00 not almost at 14.00

All the runs where made at 4th gear with 5800 rpm. The car only has an ITG air filter. Other than that it is stock. The runs where made with the stock 17" wheels. Little dissapointed with the results.

How did they measure the A/F ratio? If they stuck a probe in the exhaust pipe, The A/F ratio is wrong.

Don't Mustang dynos show less power than DynoJet dynos?

A/F ratio was measured from the exhaust pipe.

Hi Iceman, thanks for the info.

Are you going to get any pulley?
BTW where did you do the dyno? (how much $?)

Hi Voyager, i am not getting a pulley yet because of all the problems with the car. I will soon though.

I got the car Dynod at my friends place for FREE.. He owns a dyno shop called Dynomotives.

Free is a nice price

Let me know when you're doing the pulley, maybe I'll get one at the same time.

Those figures sound right if you figure 15-20% drivetrain losses

Why are you disappointed?

I read in one of the Sport Compact magazine that on their dyno they pulled 172 or 176 rwhp with the stock c230. That's a pretty big difference.

Iceman, maybe it was the 2.3L that they dynoed

Because 172-176 hp at the wheels sounds right for that becuase it would make around ~200hp at the crank.
Which mag/issue was it?

I can't remember the issue ##, it was 2003 SportCompact magazine i think. I really would like to know how much drive train c230k looses. 10,15,20%. Anyone have an idea?

Every dyno is different, you can't compare the results from a more optomistic Dynojet to a conservative Mustang. I get 193HP on a Mustang Dyno with the new ASP pulley and ITG airfilter and Renntech muffler, I got about 163HP without the pulley, same filter and muffler all done cold with at least 20 minutes between runs. My guess is that on a good day on a Dynojet I can do about 5-8HP higher. Also having or not having fans or positioning them incorrectly can have a significant effect on power, possibly 5-10 HP. Also dyno parameters have a huge impact. I was so excited when I pulled over 200HP once only to find out the dyno was setup for 4wd mode, a re-dyno later that same day showed 186HP, what a let down. One last thing that I noticed affects dyno numbers significantly. Dynos that have been sitting too long after not being used like overnight or all day will have low numbers for the first run or two until they get warmed up and the fluids circulate.

Testing on multiple cars shows the ITG air filter is good for 3 HP with a pulley, 1 HP without. I never tested before/after Renntech muffler but I didn't expect it to alter the numbers at all based on Randy's testing.

Buellwinkle, what rpm did you go up to on your dyno runs. On my car we only went up to 5800 RPM. I don't know if 6000rpm is going to make any difference. Also my speedo stoped working. I was getting ABS-ESP warnings every where even with the ESP off.. Is this normal?? Does it effect any HP numbers??

1st run was at 5500 rpm. I got only 156 HP on it. Then we pulled another 158 HP. 3rd run was at 5800rpm where it made 160.5 HP. I haven't tried it yet at 6000rpm. I wonder if the numbers would be a little higher?

All the pulls where started at 3000rpm at 4th gear.

You need to use 'dyno' mode, or you'll get tons of error messages like that. It turns ESP and all the electronic crap off completely, unlike the ESP off switch, which only seems to turn off the engine torque reduction 'feature'. ESP is obviously still working even when its in OFF, because both of your rear tires will spin- its not a POSI differential, must be ESP stepping in.

I guess that's why they call it 'dyno mode', right?

I got 172.3 hp / 184.8 on torque on my stock '02 Coupe on a Dynojet. I forgot to use dyno mode, but just used touchshift to run it in 4th. I did get the ESP/BAS error when the rev-limiter kicked in at 6k.

Peak power is at 5500rpm or so, by 6k you are on the downslope so it makes no difference if you are looking for peak power to go that high.

OK, for those of us who haven't dynoed our cars yet but want to, how do we get into 'dyno' mode?
