Transmission.. Help!!
Wish I knew about this site some time ago. I have a 2007 Mercedes c230 with roughly 145,000 miles. Been out of town. Family was using it. Got in, started driving, it started hesitating, almost stalling when shifting between 3rd and 4th gears. Took it to a shop in the area for diagnostic check. The codes are P0071 and P0730. I'm told I need a new or rebuilt tranny...
It's apparent family didn't show my car any love.
" Any advice?? "

I'd check/replace ALL the fluid and I'd see if the conductor plate is going. The latter being the Achilles heel of the 722.

Thanks for your response. This site can be overwhelming. One guy told me 5,000 and hadn't seen my car :# Had the fluid replaced. Still had the same shifting issues. The indy says he has to replace the TCM. He's charging me 1,200 parts and labor. At this point, I'm thinking,, pay him and hold him responsible for anything else needed from this point. I will definitely continue on this site to gain further DIY info. Vultures everywhere...

Is the fluid on the transmission low? If no, then...
Did he just replace what was in the pan? The pan isn't a very good indicator of how much fluid you have in your vehicle. If I remember correctly, when the vehicle rests the fluid drains directly to the pan (about 3-4 litres of it), and is supposed to overflow into the TC. So if you had 5 quarters of fluid, you would see 3-4 litres in the pan, but you'd probably only have 1 L in the TC, which is supposed to hold about 4-5 litres.
Was the fluid EVER changed? If no, then you might as well replace your transmission.

TCM is under passenger floor plate. Possible that transmission oil from leaking pilot bushing adapter would make it's way to TCM but this problem is fixed on 2007 right? Anyways, TCM is just a circuit board with no moveable parts - transmission oil at TCM plug can be cleaned with CRC Electronic Cleaner - better yet, take the TCM apart and spray CRC Electronic Cleaner on the circuit board.
Your car would benefit more from a full transmission oil change - not partial.
BTW, given how your family treated your car, if given the choice between family or car - I'd say pick the car!
