wow... very different prices for replacement keys!!
anyone replace a key recently? how much did you pay??? i knew it was going to be expensive, when i lived in socal i called the local stealerships and was quoted between 300-400 dollars. i am in michigan now and just bought one for 191!!!
that is quite the difference, i mean i know CA is overpriced with the sun tax and all but c'mon almost twice the cost for the same key!
i also just bought new tires and saved a bunch of money by buying them online and then having them installed locally. i called all around town and was quoted 800-950 and then bought the same exact tires online for 486(including delivery and 20 dollar mail in rebate) and then 58 bucks to mount and balance them at a local shop.

You can find an online parts retailer/dealership to order a new key. If you search, there is plenty of info on this. You will need to fax proof that you own the vehicle, usually registration, matching VIN number, driver's license, etc. The new chrome key at wholesale price is roughly $150-175
When the new key came out, MBUSA had the key priced wrong in their system. Anyone who go the key for less than $100 were very lucky. Retail price on the key now is $300ish and wholesale price is $150ish.
MBUSA tried to re-bill my local dealership's parts department for all of the new keys they sold at $78 back in 2007.

My Father lives overseas in Fiji and has a 2001 C240 with a key that doesn't work. U.S Dealers are telling me the car needs to be here to order a new key. Does anyone know a work around to this problem?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Out Of Control!!
I'm back to using my original key at this point. I have one of the original updated design versions where the panic button came off, and my "new" new design one from a couple of years ago which now works about 50% of the time after the battery was replaced. These keys and the prices to replace them get 5 from me.

My c230 coupe only came with 1 key and it would only unlock the doors if you were right on top of the car...no distance. Was quoted $300 from my Indy shop for a second key and same from local dealer. Decided to try another dealer...got it for $215 from Romano Mercedes in Syracuse. New style and works like a mile away.
