FSS Service Counter Question?

2005 c230 sport coupe 26K miles

Am I crazy? I just had service A done at indie shop. They reset service counter (and eliminated previous message re service A being overdue). It now reads on display: "Service B due in 13,000 miles". I have driven at least 50 miles since service performed and it still says "Service B due in 13,000 miles". I thought it counted down each mile. Also, I don't see a day counter (until next service). Why is it not counting down miles/days?

Did indeed search, which I am quite capable of! All I found were threads re resetting. Just needed that quick explanation. Thanks!

American cars are not using the full FSS capability - neither are SA cars. They are preset to a service distance of 13,000 miles in the US & 15,000 Km in South Africa. (torrid zone)

They do not count WOT or check oil condition or other FSS capability. So your services are every 13,000 miles irrespective of use.

Thanks. I never noticed any changes (based on type of miles driven or oil quality). As for my inquiry re days being counted down, now that I remember the only time I ever saw days is when I have gone OVER the service due preset.

Yes, only by 100 mile intervals as was already said. And Glyn is right, the car is not checking oil quality.

You'll see overdue by XXX Miles if you go over 13,000 miles
You'll see overdue by XXX Days if you go over 365 days (regardless of miles)
You'll die if you go over both 13,000 miles and 365 days.

Hope this helps. Happy New Year.

Are you guys sure it doesn't check oil quality or anything because mine seems to go up once it gets down to around 3 or 4k to go it sometimes jumps up to like 6 again. BTW my car starts at 10k not 13k. maybe since it is an 01 c320 it is different then newer models.
my car seems different so who knows it has 4 pad sensors when other members on here with 01 c320's have 3 so who knows.

Trey - my car also has 4 pad sensors - you go figure. Your car might have the full FSS capability switched on. It's an early car so anything is possible. Was it built in Brazil or Germany?

A Car
Im 99% sure my FSS checks the oil quality.
Had my oil changed at 5k miles prior to service A and i didnt even reset the FSS and it went up 3k miles on its own. After doing a few WOT, the FSS comes much sooner than usual. That right there tells me my car checks the oil quality and driving style, not so sure about the newer models though.

Yeah but yours is not a US car. Every one over here seems to have 3 or less lol and mine is made in Germany 04/01 delivered may 26 2001 to first owner (My Birthday i turned 11 that day lol)
I think i remember reading somewhere like the owners manual or something that it does check oil quality, quantity and driving style. like i said mine after service started at 10k. i am going to watch it much closer this time to see what it does. last oil change was over 14k lol i didn't realize it until i found the last service paperwork and when i took it in it still said i had like 800 miles to go. it must have increased some time and i never noticed it or something.

It's evident that early cars from Germany had it and switched on. My car has it but switched for 15,000 Km drains. Many American cars don't even seem to have the oil quality sensor. Seems they discontinued the full FSS fairly early there.
