Needing your help folks. I've searched the forums endlessly for answers and so far I'm coming up blank.


Here is the issue:

Sunroof switch doesn't work - does nothing - in addition - interior light switches (inside the same overhead console) not working. Seems to me like an entire circuit is down.

Looking at the fuses they are fine - seems fuse # 9 is the most approriate - it is fine - and I've checked the other fuses (trunk, driverside interrior, and eng compartment) fuses seem fine.

Seems other things not working:
Glove box light not working, visor lights not working, and the buttons on the rearview mirror seem to do nothing (I currently do not even use those.)

I'm out of warrantee (of course) - but I'm thinking my only choice is to go to the dealer which I'm dreading. The only thing that looks like it may be working is the emergency red button - it is illuminated.

Thanks as always for any ideas - hopefully this is a common type issue.

Hmm. Maybe you should have your battery tested. DO NOT DISCONNECT IT right away! lol. Anyway, I've heard and read that similar things can happen when the battery goes low.

Chris, in my car the sunroof power is fused at the rear drivers side panel. Try pulling each fuse, inspect and reinstall. I say each because I don't know which fuse is the right one, but it is definetly back there.

Ended up being a faulty console switch - overhead console switch replaced 1000$ - Ouch!

Part itself costs @ 650$ + @ 300$ in labor.

Apparently it needs to be programmed - it is not a simple swap out.

I just had this problem with the dome light assembly on our 2001 c240 and found this thread. My fuses were good, etc. It turned out to actually be some corrosion in one corner of the circuit board around the CAN bus interface chip. Nothing appeared burned.

I have the 'SOS' model, beige, and ended up ordering a non-SOS, off-white unit on Ebay for $40. The SOS is on an independent circuit, wired separately, and still operated fine. Since the units are the same otherwise (except for finish), I just swapped the circuit boards. I had to re-sync the sunroof, but almost everything is working again.

I have a new battery, but still have the 'Lamp sensor, Visit Workshop' malfunction. Also, the location light function isn't working, either. My wife noticed it failing (when it was dark outside) shortly before the whole console went out.

I suspect the failure and warning are directly related. I'm checking for a wiring mishap, but am wondering if this is a defect on the board I received. Does anyone know of a way to 'reset' this by pulling a fuse somewhere? I understand that the code can be read by a SnapOn or other 3rd party device, so I'm trying to avoid the stealership. I've already tried the key reset, but to no avail.
