Drive the car for awhile and the srs light should clear if no fault. If it doesnt you can either reset with battery or take to an indie shop that can clear it.

When I disconnected my battery to take out my Alt, I had the SRS go to workshop light and after a week of driving it did not go away. I had to get it cleared with a Star program at an indie shop, quickest $80 they ever made, think it took them at the most 7min from start to finish. They said that it will not reset itself as part of a safety issue built in so that the matter is taken care of. Sounds pretty stupid to me that working on an item that is not directly involved with the SRS will cause this problem. I had a battery saver hooked in as well but that did not help

apparently if both the battery and alternator are disconnected it will throw an SRS error according to the shop. I did not have a problem when I changed batteries but add in an alternator change, that did it

When I swapped batteries I did not get a SRS but all the other resets had to be done. I did not have a slave battery attached. (Hey I was a new MB owner I know otherwise now)

Later when I messed up glovebox CD addition and blew my audio HU fuse, once I started the car up it sent the SRS light ablaze due to Fiber Optic Communication error.... after fixing the fuse the SRS stayed for weeks of driving. Then my forum researches had me thinking that my SRS would not reset by itself.

Vs. the OBDII - service engines soon (SES) or check engine light (CEL) can go out when issue is fixed (gas cap lose, or bad sensor part R&R etc) & miles driven. As well how the steering wheel ESP (Electronic Stability Program) lock to lock resets that light. All those can go out without a reset scan or tool with remedy and time.

My indie was quoting $125 + for my SRS reset and coding my Fiber Optic (FO) ring to see my new CD changer (not a requirement but WTH I want things right).

At the time I didn’t know how integral the FO signal was or why the SRS was lit, it could have been another issue?. So being a stubborn DYI'r I spent that much on my own Carsoft Multiplexer and reset it. It scanned and showed it was just that "Comm Error" in like 12 of the various scanned areas.

So anyhow, now I have the tool, and satisfaction of the remedy. Haven’t used it since that October 1st 2011 reset. : )

I disconnected the battery overnight and the SRS is still on, I have not driven the vehicle but I am thinking it will require a manual reset. I think I can get it done for less than $60.

The SRS light was on when I purchased the car used from a private seller.

I don't believe Carsoft will do it. I have tried unsuccessfully.
You need to have it done by a shop so they can determine if something is actually wrong.
"Tool" is Star Diagnostic System" otherwise knows as SDS, which requires a laptop, software and interface and total cost for the pirated version is about 1 grand with the PC.
Lucky you if you know someone who has it.

Though, best thing is to just clear it and see if it comes back.
I've had to get mine cleared a couple time. And both times it didn't come back,
last time was due to water getting in and the whole car died till it dried out.
I paid a mechanic 50 bucks to clear it.
He wanted 200 to do a full diag. I said, look , I got 50 bucks cash, can you just clear it and then we'll see if it comes back? It didn't.

Any idea what I can purchase from ebay to get rid of the SRS light. My battery went dead and started to display the SRS error. I've since replaced the battery, but the SRS light is still illuminated.

Any ideas?

How are you guys disconnecting and reconnecting your battery...when disconnecting, neg first then +, and then + first when reconnecting.
I've had my battery disconnected countless times, never had any dash lights come on afterwards.
