Best tool to reset SRS light

Hi,

I need to reset SRS light on my 2002 C240.
I know I have OBDII connector under the sterring wheel.
Is it possible that my car has 38-pin connector as well?
Where under the hood can I find 38-pin connector? Just curious.

I know Carsoft multiplexed device will work on my car.

Has anyone used the following devices to reset the SRS light?
1. MaxiDiag® EU702 http://www.alpha-bid.com/product306.html2.
2. OBD-2 Vehicle Explorer Scan Tool http://www.obd-2.com

Thank you.

Why are you resseting your srs light?

Normally you can clear the SRS light when the car is on, full lock the steering wheel left and then full lock right. I have done this before and it has worked.

By "on", do you mean start the engine or turn the key in position 2 only? And by "full lock", you mean turn the stirring wheel all the way to the left then right and repeat upto 5 times? I just want to be clear because i need to do this for my car also. Thanks for the tip

I don't think it matters, but I have cleared mine with the car on and running.

Though one time, it didn't go away by doing that, it just went away after a little time.

I replaced my battery and I was measuring current drain on the battery with ampmeter. I found seat control module (SCM) and overhead console module were draining the current. SRS light stays on after I reconnected the battery.

I red I could reset SRS light unless I don't really have real faulty part. The scanning tool will tell me what the problem is and wll clear the code.

Full lock the steering wheel left and right will not reset SRS. It resets ESP.

Carsoft will reset SRS light.

Anybody have experience using two tools I mentioned in the original post? MaxiDiag and OBD-2 scanner...

When i took my centre console out to replace the head unit with an aftermarket head unit, my SRS light came on. I did the 5x steering lock and the light went away so it worked for me.

Blueskywcc, did you ever find out an answer? I removed center console and dash parts to fix a broken AC control motor and tripped the SRS light somehow. I sent alpha-bid an email asking if it would reset the SRS code for a 2002-C230. I will let you know what they say.

PS:Benzc200k - Tuning the wheel 'side to side' calibrates wheel lock (an ESP code). Yours must have cleared up coincidentally when you turned the wheel back and forth...it is unrelated to SRS.

You need a machine to reset it. Dealer or someone with the capability to do it.

Doesn't look like Alpha-Bid will work for me at least (2002 C230). I got this reply when I asked if it would work with the C230:

"If we have learned anything about these products over the years it's that ,if the car is not listed specifically it will not work , and none of these three vehicles are listed we will be getting more of these EU702 's in about 4-5 weeks is the ETA, do have a look
http://www.alpha-bid.com/product306.html
Thanks Yvonne"

I looked at the product link and asked if it would reset the SRS fault and I got the following reply:

"The srs, is that the service reminders? If so then I do believe that is the engine lights mentioned in the feature description, if it is something different ,then I will have to say no.
thanks Yvonne"

I didn't get any confidence that this was a good buy at $169.

I don't think Maxidiag would work. But, Carsoft multiplexer would work. http://www.alpha-bid.com/product55.html Carsoft multiplexer worked on my 2002 C240 to reset SRS light. You would have to use it on a laptop with serial port or PCMCIA card to serial port. It desn't work with USB to serial port.

Follow this link on other forum.

Blueskywcc,

Looks like people have been able to get it to work but when the seller says it isn't supported I can't buy it with the hopes it would work. I suspect that the person from alpha-bid that responded to my email did so in haste and w/o knowing the product or question. Maybe they will respond differently but I'll also post the issue on the post you provided.

Thanks!

Joe

Blueskywcc,

I ended up getting the Carsoft 7.4 MB scanner. Tested the car today. Found three areas under "airbag" (the only place I tested). Cleared the errors and all is well.

Have you used your scanner for anything else? Any suggestions on tests I should run on a car with 130k miles?

Thanks

Joe

Any luck finding the 38-pin connector? I have a 2003 C230K, and had to replace the turn signal switch, which involved removing the steering wheel. As expected, it set off the SRS warning and light. My OBDII reader won't reset the SRS light, so now I'm in the same boat. The 38-pin reset tool is much cheaper than the dealer's diagnostic charge. BUT I can't find the connector on my car, and I'm beginning to think the '03 and above models don't have one... PLEASE help!!!

Your car only has a 16 pin BD connector..
Only the last of W210 and 208 models were fitted with both 16 and 38 pin connectors.

CarSoft experience W203 C230 Komp

My experiences of: A copy (thanks gurunutkins) of CarSoft V7.4S scanning diagnosis software. The Mercedes Multiplexer. My wimpy old desktop PC used with a 25-foot serial extension cord addition. On my W203 C class 2002 C230 Kompressor Coupe, Manual 6 speed, Audio 20 HU, CDC (added - read later, no other Audio or phone Fiber optics installed), with the basic HVAC control head. And a SRS light on the dash & MFD.

Short Summary: Great experience. I scanned thru my OBDII port and found all errors. I reset my SRS fault light that I know I caused when I blew Audio20 HU fuse #64 and ran the car during my DIY MB OEM CDC installation like 3 weeks ago. It triggered many Comm. errors in many systems-arrghh. I am now left with a DCM FL and DCM FR error, but they are not tripping any light or malfunctions indications to dash. I also am super pleased that I WAS able to code my used DIY MB OEM glove box installation CDC, to the Fiber Ring, and now that specific DB2 scan is 100% error free.

2004 C240 SRS Light

Help!! I recently pulled a fuse while searching for the source of No Lights (front or rear) now my SRS light is on. The SRS light was not on prior to removing the fuse. I read that disconnecting and re-connecting the battery could reset the light if there truly is not a fault. Can anyone confirm this? I know I will have to resync the ESP, side windows, and sunroof after re-connecting the battery.

Thanks in advance.

I am tracking the no lights issue on another thread but any helpful suggestions would also be appreciated and investigated.
