W210 wagon (S210) E200 kompressor 2002
It has 218K km (136K miles).
It has no problem at all, so don't see the meaning of replacing it. But if I can replace the oil for 30Eur, I don't mind to do it.
It's still in the car, don't plan to remove. Hope I can get the screw out. It's M111.

What I was thinking, about the refill, we are supposed to fill until it drains back out of the fill hole. But, on my engine (M111), the kompressor is not in vertical position, it has some angle. Is this considered when that refill instruction is given?

Ok guys, I replaced it last week.
1. removed the kompressor belt pulley (anyway was replacing it). This gives a better reach for the bolt.
2. My bolt was T30 torx. With a small socket wrench, it was a tight, but at the end, it released.
3. And here comes the surprise: there was NO oil in my supercharger! :O I could smell it (like old goat cheese), but could not suck anything out with a syringe. It was dry. I was thinking it was the wrong bolt...but could not be. So I decided to fill. Filled with about 110ml, nothing spilled out, but did not want to add more. The bolt has a small rubber o-ring, that was very good state on mine, so left it. Put back bolt, tightened strongly.
4. Don't feel/hear any difference. But at least it has oil now.

Now the question, where did the old (13 years, 220k km (140k miles)) oil go?

Some pictures attached.

Mine was dry too when I did the diy last year. Maybe the oil seeped past the seals...btw how did you remove the pulley? What did you replace it with..thx

Strange...then I am not alone with a dry charger. I hope it will like the oil.

The pulley.
How? Just with a socket wrench. I did it w/o removing the belt, just pushing down the belt with hand, released the tension on the pulley. Remove the dust cover plastic, and you will see the bolt.
Why? Its surface was a bit old, worn. The bearing was also a bit worn.
Replaced with INA brand. The original MB was also INA.

I misunderstood, by "kompressor pulley" I thought you meant the actual pulley on the supercharger. Looking closely at your pics I see now you meant the idler. That's an easy one to do...thx for the how to anyways.

No, sorry, it was the idle pulley.
About the tension pulley, that also looks easy (I did not do however). Remove belt, remove pulley, replace. See this: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w202...nsioner-2.html

Guys, how are the SCs holding up four months after the oil change (top-off)?

I do not really feel any change. For me it's like oil change, you won't feel it, but you know it's good for the "gears"

not a merc
If you own a m271 I would not worry about sc oil. I would be more concerned about my timing chain and gears.

Mine is M111 with supercharge (E-class, W210), with double chain, it will last forever
But for M271, yes, check&replace chain regularly.

I'm starting to get a vibration around the damper area ... thinking it might not be a bad idea to change the SC oil right now. Other forums reference the AC Delco oil as being standard use for Eaton SCs including the M45/M65 ...

Would you agree? If so, I'll pick up a bottle of this and try my hand at an oil change first to see if it helps.

Thanks. John

Yes, thats the right stuff.
ZAP, from what I've read we only need one bottle for M111 M45, correct?
Everybody wants to sell you 2, but overfilling is a big no no.
I need to pull the SC to repair an exhaust manifold leak, replace the gasket, so
'while I'm in there' , might as well.

Yes, you need 110 ml oil. There are 3 seals where the oil can disappear, two at the rotor shafts, one at the pulley.
If you have the supercharger in hand, take the opportunity to open it and change the coupler (ebay 14$). If it is worn it makes a loud rattling noise during idle.

BTW: Turbine oil is suspected to be a poison for nerve cells and your brain, be careful not to get it on your fingers, wear gloves.

I opened the hood this morning ... without taking anything off the engine, using a mirror and flashlight I was able to clearly see the hex/torx bolt and even the rubber o-ring around the bolt head. It appears to be clean and clear of the pulley for very easy access.

So I'll go ahead and order some oil, and hopefully do it this coming weekend.

I am assuming that positioned on M271 sedan that the drain/fill hole is at the proper spill level.

I will still pull off the belt and check all accessories for smoothness. I may still have a bad bearing developing, but I won't have time to deal with that right now so a quick oil change seems like a good immediate thing to do.

The oil and syringe arrived this past week, and just today I changed the oil. Or should I say, I added oil.

0ml out
~75ml in

I found the torx bolt very easy to get to once you removed both intercooler hoses:

Each hose unit was mounted to the engine with two E10 torx bolts (green ovals).

Once the hoses were pushed out of the way the SC oil torx plug was easy to access:

I was able to remove it fairly easily with a T30 screwdriver ... it was only hand tight.

With my syringe I snaked the hose through the fill hole and downward to what felt like the bottom of the snout cavity -- I even had to turn the gears a bit to nudge the hose in a downward direction. Could not get anything out at all.

I filled the syringe with fresh oil and squeezed it in. Only started to dribble out when I finished emptying the syringe. A few drops trickled out in all, I even turned the pulley and gears a bit to mix it up, but nothing more.

So I would guess that my oil was all gone. I am also guessing that you cannot put 135Ml of oil in there with the SC mounted the way it is on the engine ... so unless you want to park on a steep upgrade, you'll just have to live with a 2/3 fill. Still better than empty!

Fyi, here is a chart showing oil fill capacity for Eaton superchargers for various cars:

http://www.superchargersonline.com/i...age=page&id=58

And here is a link to another page on MB cars -- not necessarily M271, but it does mention the "actual" oil source:

Damn Damn Damn!
Can't the drain plug out, appears to be T37?
Guess I stripped it out on a previous attempt.
Only option is to drill it and get an easy out, but a replacement drain plug from
ebay would take a week to get here, and I already got a ticket for working on
my car out in front my apt. $75!!! arrrrrr!
Original problem was leaking manifold, actually super sprint header.
Sadly I'm putting the stock manifold back on.

Thanks for the DIY, jkowtko! That looks easy enough.

Coupe, that's a bummer about your ticket! Maybe you need to work a deal with the guy who owns the garage in your picture!

Coup,

is it a M111? If so you can take out the supercharger and remove the snout to change the oil. For refill you just put the charger in upright position, pour the oil bottle (110 ml) and bolt the snout back on with a small amount of RTV or similar.
While you in there you can measure the wear of the plastic coupler. If the bores are not perfectly round, you will get a clunking noise during idle.

Sadly, Former residence. Better days.
After how many downturns, recessions, crashes etc I'm reduced to living in an apt. in the big big city where rents are the highest in the nation....and the quality of life has gone way down...well, truth be told there are MANY worse places to be. Still.....
I continue to be thankful for what I have. But even renting a house of out of the question. Would cost minimum 5 grand a month. People are buying houses for 1 mil and tearing them down. Homeless people roam the streets, go right into your backyard to sift through your trash and only about 50% of the local population can (barely) speak English and fixing your car is illegal.
Welcome to Silly Con Valley. Time to move somewhere else. Unfortunately it's one of the few places in this country where decent jobs are easier to come by.

Sucks dude....I did a head gasket job on my beater civic right in front of my building at my apt complex...tools everywhere, car on stands, cooler with beer....not a peep from anyone.
I really don't get why some people are bothered by what you are doing to your car on your own time at your own expense. Few years ago I passed up a pay increase that would have required a move out west....looks like I would be absolutely miserable. You should see what the local autozone parking lot looks like on a saturday morning here....the sign that says not to work on your car is ignored by everyone including the store employees who will gladly crawl under your car with you!

The Bay area is beautiful. I would like to visit San Francisco again as it's been a long time since I visited, but there is no way I would live there! Cost of living is only one reason.

I assume you're in software or hardware. I know there is only one Silly Con Valley, but there are some other good places where the cost of living is on the sane end of the spectrum. RTP, Boston, Austin, Huntsville, AL...

It would be worth a look! If I were still working, I'd give you a recommendation.

Huntsville AL ? Where did you come up with that?
I have actually been there on biz once.
Spent a couple weeks in Ft. Payne....utilities...back in the day.
I guess the space center is around there somewhere I think....
My girl wants to move to Bend OR, but not much in the way of work up there....
well maybe flipping burgers.

Huntsville was a big NASA site back in the Apollo days. A lot of people started tech companies there. When I was looking for a job before I moved up to Raleigh, it seemed like an interesting place job-wise, but I wasn't sure about Alabamy. Having spent time in Alabama since, I think I should have looked harder at it. Of course, that was 30 years ago so things could have changed and I certainly wouldn't say Alabama is for everybody. I can guarantee you that housing is cheaper and you wouldn't get a ticket for working on your car!!

It's worth looking for greener pastures! They are out there!
