2003 C240 4matic
2003 240 4Matic purchased near end of June.

In first month:

1. Alarm siren would not work. Dealer Replaced siren.

2. Siren then started going off when it should not, including while driving the car. Dealer replaced a part.

3. Trunk light then stopped working. Dealer replaced same part as in 2.

No problems since.

Re: Re: How many problems with your C? What kind?

A while back I wrote
1500 miles on it, only problem is that the valves that control air blowing on my feet tend to get stuck in the open position. Dealer said he will fix, I just have been too busy to get it there.
Otherwise it has been flawless.
The sticky A/C valve seems to have finally loosened up at nearly 4K miles. It has no problems at all now.

03 C230 coupe, 12,000 km, Sep '02 build.
Turn signals went crazy after about 4 months, lever (switch) replaced, no recurrence. Re-synched the sunroof several times in the first few months but not since spring. I'm still not completely happy with the 1-2 shift (manual) it's much better than it was. No other problems.
No squeaks at all, one very occasional rattle from the centre dash speaker grille on rough roads, waiting till Service A to complain.

Dealer still can't seem to get the wheels balanced after numerous attempts from day one of delivery. Also seem to receive excessive feedback in steering wheel over smallest imperfections in road. (Never experienced this in loaner cars). Purge valve ticks loudly while at idle (corrected myself). Other than this, I absolutely love the car. Just wish it didn't shake while driving at hwy speeds. Luckily I mainly drive short distances.

Update (since the very first post in this topic):

13,600miles, just had Service A completed.

- Parking brake came out of adjustment - repaired by dealer
- Rattle in center dash vent - repaired by dealer
- Dealer observed wind noise from front passenger door during road test - parts to repair on back-order (I thought it was normal)

So far, I've had nothing but good experiences with the car and the service. The items above are not significant in my opinion, and have not diminished the high regard I have for MB and their cars.

C230K sport sedan

1. Faulty air flow sensor contributing to the worst engine ever driven in my life. The problem wasn't diagnostic until 2 months of complaint about rough engine response. After fix the car is still one of the worst engine I ever driven but better than what it was like at delivery. They gave me C230 Coupe (2.3L/1.8L), C240 and C320 Sedan which gave me a good baseline to compare with.

2. On and off bi-xenon malfunction which could be fix sometimes by simply restarting the car. After going through around 30 malfuction (it once fail 10 time straight where restarting couldn't bring it back on) they finally were able to detect the HID ignitor was faulty in the 3rd month of ownership.

3. I have memory package so I have the tilting right mirror when in reverse. The mirror would sometimes tilt left and right instead of up and down. Sometimes it would just not move at all. The problem is still going on hopefully I can get it fix.

C200K Sedan 2002 M111 Engine

1. from the day I got my car, the right license plate lamp blew.... and every time I replaced the bulb it would blow again within a day or two. Now I just leave it as it is and have learnt to put up with the constant error message on the dash.

2. My passenger mirror keeps tilting in instead of down during a reverse. A reset at the dealer would fix it, but only for a few weeks.

3. Driver's window one touch sometimes does not work.

4. There LOUD clicks from somewhere inside the console everytime I start the engine. About 5 - 7 spaced out in second intervals. It sounds line flicking your nail on a piece of paper. Going to get this looked at.

The w203 is my best looking benz, but I find that my w202 was a more durable workhorse.

500 miles on the odometer, so far . . .

1) rattle from dash -- clip missing behind dash, dealer fixed

2) rattle from interior lighting pod by rearview mirror -- foam insulation missing, fixed by dealer.

3) rattle from trunk area -- missing felt insulation around spare tire, dealer fixed

4) wind noise from driver window -- dealer says "can't hear it" have to call MBUSA or try another dealer

Small annoyances, but this car is brand new. Who the hell built it? Three missing pieces discovered so far -- very weak for a Mercedes.

2003 MB C230 coupe
first 5 months:

- bad oxygen sensor (replaced)

- bad engine harness (replaced)

- faulty ECU software and hardware on new 1.8L engine, caused the engine to slightly rev randomly (replaced both software and hardware with most recent version, runs smooth as silk now)

- cracked button on steering wheel (replaced)

it's been roughly 8 months and 10,000 miles since all that and i haven't had any more problems at all. well, except for the fact that i've done about $6500 worth of damage to my baby in 2 separate incidents. but it wasn't the car's fault.

'14 GLK250 Diesel
2002 C240 Automatic / 9500 miles / 15 months in service

-Leak in differential traced to a plugged vent tube. Remedied easily by the dealer.

-Car had a pull to the right that was evident on the initial test drive, and corrected by the dealer with a careful four-wheel alignment.

-There is an on-and-off occasional plastic-on-plastic noise from the center stack; I can make it go away by pressing on any part of the center stack, and it goes away entirely when the interior gets warm. I've been hesitant to turn a tech loose on this because of the potential to cause more problems in searching for the cure.

On the whole, I am very pleased with this car - it's smooth, quiet, comfortable on long trips, and nice to look at. It is also the 14th Mercedes I've owned since 1968...

c240 4matic wagon
Ticking Sound

I bought a 2003 C240 4matic wagon in December with 125 miles on it. Now 3,300. It has been making a sound like an old fashioned sewing machine, or a diesel, which is louder in the cabin. It has been diagnosed as a "harmonic chirp." (See the thread under harmonic chirp.)

They've replaced the purge valve and cam shaft and rotor arms. It still makes the same noise, although the last time it was in (they left the ticket open so it wouldn't show as another time) and they declared the sound normal. It's driving me nuts and I am going to contact the president of the company before starting with MB USA and legal action. Has any one else had anything similar? I've owned two diesels before this and was always happy with the cars. Thanks.

I owned two

My parents have a 2003 C240 Classic sedan, 7K on clock.

1) intermittent hesitation under acceleration--dealer said the cars like that?? no action
2) intermittent driver's side seatbelt failing to retract--said couldn't duplicate problem, no action. One day when seat belt failed to retract and door was closed on it, it damaged the trim
After discussion with service manager, he ended up filling up damgaed trim with putty(???) and colour matched to leather. I would have preferred him to replace door trim.

2004 C320 pewter/charcoal
My car: 2004 C320, pewter/charcoal. Bought 8/04. Miles: 2100

My salesperson said I could bring in the car at 1000 miles for a free oil change which I did. At this time, I mentioned to the sales tech that I believed the car pulled to the left when driving down the highway and no hands on the wheel testing it out (she originally dismissed this saying it's probalby due to the road and I of course should have both hands on the wheel and since it was a new car it couldn't be the alignment). I insisted on having it checked out and it was indeed an alignment problem that was fixed.

Other minor nuisances:
Have bose audiopilot but also had the speed sensing volume control both working which made the music dreadfully load at acceleration and nearly imperceptible when coming to a stop. Had dealer turn off the speed control volume (set to 0 thanks to advice from forum members) and now works perfectly.

Other than that, love my car, love the way it looks, can't wait to drive it each day.

MB new car problems...

My '01 C320 is my seventh MB, the last five purchased new. It is far and away the most reliable of all with much fewer dealer visits for warranty repairs. The fixes so far have been electronic glitches and all have been rectified to my satisfaction There have been no problems at all for the last eighteen months or so except that the driver's door inside pull is separating a tiny bit so will be replaced at the next service. One more point. I am EXTREMELY particular.

If a prospective buyer is one of those who thinks that because a car is expensive, "nothing should ever go wrong," they should consider another make. BTW, it's my opinion that those owners of asian-branded cars who claim that "nothing ever goes wrong" wouldn't know a malfunction if it came up and bit them in the.............

2005 6spd c230k sedan with 2500 miles. All brake-related warning/malfunctions (brake wear, esp, abs) came on including check engine. Speedometer failed to work at the same time.

It's still at the dealer right now because they are waiting for the part (ecps module or something).

Oh ****, that's terrible! Let us know what happens.

My 05 C230K SS, has had audio problems (that they can't diagnose) in which it will just not work (it's pretty well documented on this board) and a armrest that is shedding (it's covered under warranty, the part is apparently on national backorder and will take a couple of weeks).

At 15,000 miles, I've had my first problem. I have a rattle in the hatch area. Dealer isn't sure what is causing it, but they've replaced the hatch cover and now all the plastic trim pieces are on order.
