I have a CD somewhere with videos showing it done, but not in exact detail.
It does seem to involve sawing some stuff.
I could make arrangements to make you a copy for a small fee for my time,
packing and shipping, like say $20 assuming you are in the US.
Unlike the service DVD it is possible to copy this.

Sorry for delay

Was hoping to have got more input on the subject but never mind, thanks for your input but I am not in the USA but the UK.
Unfortunately the main UK MB site seems to specialise in cars pre 2000 so was hoping this more modern and progressive site could be of help.
Regards. Steve

It's really not a DIY procedure.
I remember the video, I was like wtf?
They were actually sawing stuff.
And then dropping in a whole new roof.
Mine was replaced, so I guess that's what they did.
Why do you want to remove it?

You pretty much destroy the roof to remove it. I hope you have a new one standing by.

I do have a 'new' one bought cheaply from a merc main dealer, has been fitted and removed and is showing very little if any damage and is certainly complete with all glass, motors and the blinds.
Mine will not work, when operating the switch the interior light dims showing the motor is drawing current but does not move, the blind works fine.

continued... I tried opening it manually and it operated fine but the shear amount of torque required to open it 9 inches ripped out the allen yey in the motor shaft. Bought the new one for parts but am now thinking it might be easier to change the whole thing

You and I are in the same boat. My roof hasn't been opened in years, and I have stripped the gear. People reference a DIY where a guy actually fixed his roof, but I have yet to see it.

When mine started grinding I only replaces the motor and it worked fine. But my roof wasent stuck and it was used often.
