Yes, classic Mercedes stuff, 'back in the day' was better.
M112 M111. Only thing I didn't like on the M112 was all the coilpacks, plugs and wires.
+ 2 cats to go bad.

Yes but look at the clean exhaust they blow for the time - a true LEV.
I love the M272 quad cam design but I was determined to wait until it had been debugged. It's a lovely engine when everything is right.

I was just told the same thing?
I have a 2007 E 350 with less than 75k miles and I was just told the same thing. How could a supposedly well built care like this, less than 7 years old with relatively low mileage be in need of a new intake manifold. This seems like a design flaw that the consumer is left to pay for. Where does the manufactures culpability lay?

It's a mechanical thing and mechanical things break occasionally. Why shouldn't you have to pay for an out-of-warranty repair? They give you a 4 year 50k mile warranty and an option to pay to extend that. What more do you want? Does your home and its appliances have a lifetime warranty? No. What does the refrigerator repair man or the plumber tell you when you think you shouldn't have to pay?

cul·pa·bil·i·ty
/ˌkəlpəˈbilitē/
noun
noun: culpability
1. responsibility for a fault or wrong; blame.
"a level of moral culpability"
synonyms: guilt, blame, fault, responsibility, accountability, liability, answerability; More
When there is a/are death/s involved...do you think GM would recall these "out of spec" ignition tumblers if no one died? Nope.

Did you look up your engine # in the EPC?
12/08 Thats pretty far along I think they had identified it by then.

Hi everyone,
Hope all is well. Last year I went back to my stock manifold. I had a similar issue. There are repair kits online but not the rod. I'm sure you can have one made.
Here is an example of the repair kit
Here is a new manifold

Here is the flap repair kit

If you're going to replace it I would get the gaskets too. At Rmeuropean they are around 4 dollars. Totally worth it. I had weird issues when I used my old gasket. Be careful when putting them on. If they are a little off you'll have all kinds of issues.
Javvy's post is great too.

My OM611 manifold joining the club also @ ~240k miles. My indy found loads of oil leaking from the manifold.
Is it possible to manifold/flaps/axle motor to be broken without Star giving any error codes? My indy has spare manifold with flaps removed
Also is the risk of ruin the same with these manifolds like in BMW's which swallow flaps and ruin the engine?

Hi everyone
I wanted to share my experience with this issue. I have 2007 C230 automatic
I took my car into independent repair shop for oil change and I was informed that I need new intake manifold that would cost me 1100$ plus tax plus labor (900$). Same work would cost me anywhere between 3-4k$ at the dealership. I was told that there is no way I would be able to pass the smog test because of code in the computer.
I did my own research on the code that computer was giving, and I realized few things. Flap that controls intake of air is purposly made plastic (which sooner or later will wear out and break). MB does not make this flap, because its too cheap, so they sell ONLY the whole intake, which makes no sense to replace, since most of it is metal, and metal as such wont wear out so fast, and again you get a plastic piece on your car for which you will only get 1 year of warranty from the dealership, in which most likelly it wont wear out that fast, so few years down the line, if you plan on keeping the car, you will run into same problem.
When you add gas, there is explosion inside the engine, which pushes your car forward. When the flap is not opening and closing when needed, you essentially do not get air in your engine for explosion, and your car wont speed up correctly. Issue with smog test is that there is too much gas being burned out, so car gives too much smog in the exust system which fails the smog test.
I looked into options of buying used manifold, but that essentially wont solve anything, cause even after you have it installed, it can break again at any point in time.
I ordered this item off ebay. The seller guaranteed the fit, to which I was very skeptical:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/291396418211?item=291396418211&viewitem=&vxp=mtr
I took my car into the independent repair shop, who installed above (metal !!!) piece, and I was able to pass my smog test this morning. Instead spending 4000$ on new manifold, I fixed this issue for less then 500$.
I can highly recommend this solution if you have the same problem as I did with the manifold. Do the research on the code that car is giving, so that you can get the piece that is needed, instead buying something that makes no sense financially.
