Bi-Xenon Bulbs?

I'm looking to purchase a new set of bulbs for my bi-xenon as the colors in both headlights are off. I'd like the blueish tint to them. Does anyone know where I could purchase these for a decent price and the type of bulb needed? Is this plug and play .. I don't want to cause an issue with the bi-xenon at all.

8000 - Is this the blue light?
6000 - I heard is hyper white?

Any pictures would be appreciated!

Buy the OE Philips lamps made in the Aachen plant in Germany - They are the best. For Max light output do not exceed about 5700K. Stocks are in the high 4000K range. As you go beyond sunlight in colour temp so you move to the blue end of the spectrum where the human eye is less sensitive. The eye is most sensitive in the yellow/green range.

Remember as the Xenon burners age they move toward the blue end of the spectrum.

Stock will provide the most usable light. Glyn is right on the money.. 5000k would be a nice crisp color. Even 6000k is a bit too much blue for me, when I replace mine I'm going to the stock 4300K bulbs.

Are you running with the stock Mercedes Bi-xenon projector headlights?

Bi-xenon just means that there is a solenoid attached to a shield inside the headlight projector, When you hit your high beams the shield inside drops down allowing more light to pass through the lens.
So replacing a bulb won't effect the Bi-xenon.

So the bulbs that you are currently using are D2S? They should say on the base of the bulb in white writing.

8000k is purple in color
6000k is blue in color.
5000k is pure white
4300k is stock color found emitting from most OEM Projector headlight setups.

The Colors on this chart are a little darker to the eye in person.

Like Glyn M Ruck & illest said, if you go past 5700 kelvin rating, the light will be more color and less usable light projecting outwards.
it also looks kind of ricey and may bring more unwanted attention to you at night if DOT laws are harsh in your area.

http://www.theretrofitsource.com/index.php?cPath=27 is the best place to get bulbs you are looking for and their tech support is A+ if your still not sure what you need

Not true. The Osrams are good but the state of the art Philips Aachen plant is considered by the industry to churn out the finest. Benz has tested them every which way.

If you ever have an oportunity to visit the plant, do so. It is a fascinating experience.

Thanks for all the responses! I'm glad I received this input. I think I'm going to go with 6000k which will provide decent light and color. I'm glad I didn't order the 8000k before checking back here. There was a good point made about the blue looking ricey - yeah I don't want to attract unwanted attention at all. I'm trying to mod my car so it looks stock and clean. I do have the stock bi-xenon from mercedes. Thanks again!

I wouldn't go 6000k, it's TOO blue. I had 6000k's at one point and the visibility wasn't great.

I now have 5000k bulbs and they're great. I use the Morimoto 5000k D2S bulbs from The Retrofit Source. Obviously, the build quality isn't as good as the Philips bulbs, but they've been holding up pretty well and they're much better than the eBay specials.

Hmm I'll have to do some research based on the information posted here. I won't get around to this until sometime next week. I might drop down to 5000K ... I want to be able to see at night ... I'm not too concerned with the color although a slight blue tint would be a nice change if I'm going to upgrade.

I'll second or third Phil. I have 6000K and plan to dump them once I get other things straight with my car. Too much color.

Could anyone post pictures of the bulbs they are running? I'd like to see the 5000-6000k as that is what I'm leaning towards.

I've not had much luck capturing color accurately with pictures. maybe someone else has.

outkasted's comparison chart is pretty accurate, although the 5K has more yellow in it that what is depicted.

I appreciate the photo .. based on the picture the color doesn't look too bad. How is visability? Is it much different/darker than stock?

It is noticeably different than the factory bixenons on an IS350.. much more color. The output doesn't seem too reduced, but I think 5000k would be a good compromise.

Here's a really old pic when I had the 6000k's and 6000k fogs.

Click the image to open in full size.

Yes, it looked good but the light output wasn't very good.

keep in mind.. if you get 5000K bulbs they will be slightly off white. After about 50 hours they will break in and be 5000K... thats if you use the OEM 35 wat ballast

Will getting new bulbs decrease the life of the OEM ballast? I read that a new bulb could cause old ballast to fail. What are your thoughts?
