Not an expert but you should go on discounttiredirect.com. I believe their prices are cheaper than what I see on EBay. The Michelin Pilot Sports and Continental DWS are what people swear by on here. I have Hankooks and have been satisfied with them.

I just read the review for Cont. Extreme Contact DWS. 1 guy said these tires are excellent for 2 lane, curvy, snowy roads. What's your opinion for driving in the snow with these tires?

I live in GA and we don't see much snow. But I did get the chance to drive in it when I bought the last set and they were fantastic.

Driving in the snow with all season tires is a bad idea. Get dedicated snows and dedicated summer tires. Then you can leave all of the pretender all-season tires mentioned above where they should be, back on ebay.

Agreed for areas like where you and Trey lives where it actually snows a considerable amount. But, in areas like where I live and we get a snow storm or 2 a year, the DWS's work great for those couple of occasions. Not worth dedicated winter tires here in the NW.

Actually, the benefits of summer tires over all-seasons are much more fun than the safety considerations in winter.

It never snows here.. until right after I bought my first set of DWS tires. Then it snowed about 3 times in a month, a few inches each time. We don't have snowplows here, either. The DWS were great.

Summer tires on a 189hp 3300lb automatic sedan would be a huge waste of time and money.

Even if I drive like a complete lunatic I can't break loose the DWS's, so doubt I would get any benefit from summer tires, other than a much lighter wallet.

+1 +1 for the Conti DWS's. Had them on my C32 AMG when I owned it, and presently have them on my S600 and E500 4-Matic. They are the only (All Season) tires that were able to get me around in winter without inordinate amounts of wheel spin from the rears. And they perform well on dry/wet (not quite as good as dedicated summer driven hard however). AND they last a heck of a lot longer than the Mich Pilot Sport 2 (I can get 15-20k miles from them where I was only getting 8-10k at best with the Michelin PS2 - driven with spirit but not tracked)!!!

I did just replace my rears this week on the S600 with a set of the Pilot Sport A/S Plus ZPs, but only because the DWSs weren't available in the size I was looking for (275/40/18).

+1000 for the DWS! Great tires, I've bought them multiple times and have never been disappointed. That being said I bought Michelin Pilot Sport A/S for my rears this time around, have have been very impressed. They are quiet and just as sticky as the DWS.

I wouldn't knock the Michelins, but they are more expensive and last less time (from what I have read) than the DWS.. and the performance, if better at all, is marginally so.

Since I have had both the DWS's AND the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Pluses all around, I can give a good comparison.

The Michelin's are better than the DWS's in these regards:
1)Better dry handling. Not drastically so, but definitely noticeable.
2)Better steering response.
3)Better dry braking.

The DWS's are better than the Michelin's in these regards:
1)Better wet handling. Significantly better!
2)Better winter traction and stability. Subtle, but noticeable.
3)Quieter. Not by much when new, but DWS's stay damn near silent throughout treadlife. Michelin's are very quiet at 1st, then progressively get noisier through treadlife, but not loud by any means.
4)Better wet braking.
5)Non-directional, so can be rotated side to side to help minimize feathering of the front tires, that these cars do.
6)Cheaper.

They both are pretty close to identical in treadlife and ride comfort.

I had Pilots on my car when I bought it. I can agree, from what I remember. It appears a landslide victory for DWS... don't tell Glyn.

I wouldn't call it a landslide, the Pilot A/S Plus is still a damn good tire. But for my climate and driving habits, the DWS's are pretty much the perfect tire. Exactly why I was ecstatic that they made the DWS's in the tire size for my Tiguan. So, it will get DWS's at the end of summer. Some might find the Pilots more appealing for their climate and driving habits.

Discussing tires is like discussing politics, and very few are EVER going to agree

True dat, homey.

North Joisey is one big onramp; just wouldn't be as much fun with a lesser tire.
