But it works properly? My iPod classic just died, so have a new one coming and am worried that it won't be compatible, or that I'll have to downshift and hit the emergency brake to change tracks.

My new iPod Classic arrived last week. My previous iPod Classic was about 6 years old. The current version works just as well, but that's not saying much.
The integration kit charges the iPod and it also displays the MB logo, which doesn't happen with the iPod Touch. But I couldn't care less about a logo in an iPod in my glove box, so that's not an advantage.
Neither is very reliable. The older iPod would occasionally not automatically start playing from where it was when I turned the car off, nor would it even start playing anything at all. I had to either unplug it and plug it in again, or restart the stereo (mostly the former). The new one has done that once so far, so it seems to be similar in its wonkiness.
Why is this system so unreliable and untrustworthy? The W203s were ripe for iPod integration, so I have to ask, Why the hell do the W204s have a stereo jack input instead of full iPod integration?
iPod tech is over a decade old now right? Come on MB, it is ridiculous for a premium brand to be that far behind on this. How long will it take for MB to get up to speed on an old technology?

I have been using an Ipod Nano since I started this thread, with no issues. I did upgrade to a newer Nano, and found out the car wouldn't charge it. So, I'd have to bring my Nano into the house every couple of days to charge it. I got real tired of that, so, I found a larger capacity, older Nano on Ebay for 50 bucks, 8GB... now I have plenty of room on the Nano for my stuff, and I never bring it in... the car just charges it.

W209, W124
I recently added an iPod integration kit to my W209.
All went well for install and the weird thing is that my iPhone 4S and iPod Touch from 2008 both charge just fine. Sometimes they first flash a screen that says they aren't charging but then they switch over to charging.
The sound quality is great and it beats the heck out of using CDs but not being able to select songs from the Comand screen is a real drag. I have a passenger who loves to play DJ and I hate the clunky menu system on the instrument panel. So for now the answer is he unplugs iPod, chooses song, plugs it back in. The connector won't last forever doing it this way.
If only MB had seen the future a little more clearly and built the support into the Comand LCD.

Ipod menu not accesible after install
Hello,
I just installed the ipod integration kit on my 2006 C180 K.
The help from the forum was 100% useful and the ipod is now connected but...
I seem to be able to change songs (randomly) and control the volume, but there is no option for me to navigate the menu of the ipod from the steering wheel, to choose artists or albums. Is that the case for everybody?
Please give me some guidance, I am afraid I missed a step or something.
When I press the phone buttons it says "function not available"
Thank you

I am not 100% sure but it would not surprise me as most everything on our cars require coding.
On my w211 it works fine you go to the ipod screen in the IC and you can do artist and all that stuff with the phone buttons.

hello! long time i havent posted on this forums! have an update on the ipod integtration kit that i installed a while ago on my 2005 c230k. Not sure if anybody has tried this but it works with my iphone 6 plus and i can control pandora, music player or spodify with the steering wheel controls like the regular ipod and you can see the track title on the HUD. what i used to accomplish this was an OEM apple 30pin to Lighting converter that i plugged into the ipod integration 30pin connector from the car. then i bought a 3' female to male lighting extension cord (ebay) and plugged that into my ip6+. works and it charges the phone. thing is that it charges the phone VERY slowly but it works
thought i'd share it with you folks!
