I think I will... these instructions are for the dealer techs and it says to remove the key out of ignition without disconnecting the battery. The guy who wrote a post I linked said he followed the instructions and everything was fine.

Did you ever get this done? Indy is trying to charge me close to $800 for this fix, and honestly, I hate working on airbags (bad past experiences), but if I grow the confidence through another member maybe I will relinquish my fear and get to it.

Did you have the error read and it points to the same problem? Do you have the tool to reset the light after the fix?

It points to the same problem but with the steering wheel and not the doors in my case. Apparently, the harness on the steering wheel airbag needs to be lengthened in order to stop the high voltage signal. I'll work on this tomorrow so let me know if you have any further help.

OK, I got the Carsoft 7.4 and erased the SRS code so the light is off and the malfunction message is no longer displayed on the instrument panel. Will drive around and see if it comes back...
Does anyone know where to get the user manual for Carsoft 7.4? It has a ton of abbreviations and functions and a user manual would be great to try to figure out some of the functions.

2005 C230 Kompressor Sport
2005 c230 Kompressor:
I've got the SRS light and took it to the dealer. Codes came back saying that the child safety sensor in the passenger seat and the steering column harness were faulty. They want to charge me $1800 to repair them.
I believe I can do it myself and then have the codes reset, but I don't know the part numbers. Does anyone happen to know them or where I can find them?
Thanks!

My srs light popped on this morning going into a store driveway. I didn't see the curb was pretty high hit it hard not that hard that's when light popped on, this is second fault code other one is sbc brakes. I'll deal with that later, what to do about srs light. I am a mechanic but not mercedes known yet it's a 211 chassis 04 320 4 matic

Trying spray some WD40 on the seat belt buckle (I guess that the SRS warning with only the driver in the seat), spray WD40 (or electrical lubricant), it may help (before you hit the dealer). I remember way back (may be 12-14 years), my C280 suddenly "SRS warning" appear on my way home from work, I am only one in the car, when I got home, with some WD40 spray to the seat belt buckle take care of it (never happen again until I sold the car). Good luck !

Safety Fault to recall
I see here so many people has same problem.
I have 2009 E350, and bought it used, No accident, But every time I go to dealer for service new problem comes up, this time is SRS light, I am not agreeing with this fault, This has to be recalled by mercedes to fix it, all other cars are recalled warranty or not, this is safety thing and dealers are charging $1000. to change wire and buckle. I feel this is reep off by dealer. When I drop it off for oil change was fine and next day this come up.
Mercedes should fix it free to keep up with their reputation. US government should do same thing about this....

Mine is on too...came on when I was swapping out my radio. Looks like a trip to the dealer or indy is in my future, unless anyone has any good ideas.

And the beat goes on...
In my car the SRS light is on and the code says drivers airbag resistance is too low. Light was on when I got the car. Dealer checked the air bag initiators OK, and I stopped them there to troubleshoot wiring myself.
Pulled the steering wheel, and found somebody had been there before me. Screw holes in the clockspring cover did not quite line up with the screws, and screws were buggered up. So I guess I'm in the market for a clockspring. Also did not pull the clockspring and switch assembly from the steering column because I couldn't find the bolt that holds it on. This is a 2002 C230 coupe, and there's no screw hole in the bottom of the steering column cover? Where is the bolt that holds it on?
Thanks again for the wisdom of the board.

SRS message
Simply, disconnect the battery for 5 minutes and connect again.
The SRS message will be gone.
If you wanna to touch the fuse box, make sure you disconnect the battery first otherwise so many crasy message are coming up later.

I recently purchased a C 240 and have a SRS light lit. I will work on the problem, as I have read a few things to try, but oddly enough, all my power to the roof equipment, sun roof, reading lamps, overhead lamps, vanity mirrors is also off. A local indy says its all connected to the SRS? Is this possible?

When the SRS light is on, does that mean that the airbags will not deploy?
Also, can a typical code reader display the error that is causing the SRS light or do I need to take it to someone with the STAR diagnositics?

The only real way to figure out how functional the SRS is is with the Star diagnostics.
In my case, I replaced the clockspring, and the SRS light came right back on. The code says that one driver airbag circuit has to low resistance. Tech says that the system will function, so I'm not real concerned except that the SRS light (and warning message on the screen) is an annoyance. Next I'll have to wring out the wiring between the SRS controller and the steering wheel -- hate that.

Some one help me on my question, I have c230 Kompressor 2004. only 85000 km. From last two weeks i am facing issue with this car, while driving all the sudden engine shut off, no power then need to park on side restart again then no problem, some time all day driving no issue, some time happened every 5-10 min. there is no warning light in dash. Dealer check, he said everything fine, he charge me $300 but problem still there. Then I took to different mechanic he is specialize in Japanese car he change oxygen sensor, plugs and reprogram the ECM and few more, charge me $2000 problem still there, now he said we need to change the ECM. pls suggest me what to do

$150 Car Wash
Well, I ended up taking it to the dealer. They said there were 4 codes stored...three that could have been due to the radio installation, and the last one for the passenger seat belt sensor. They "cleaned" the seat belt mechanism and all is good. So I ended up with a $150 car wash.
Some said that the air bags would not deploy with the SRS light on, and others said they might depending on the error. Either way, I wasn't going to gamble with my family's safety.
Nice note though...I forgot to mention to the service advisor that the light came on during the radio install, so I went back a minute later. When I did, I saw a couple other MB employees checking out my wagon (lowered via H&R cup kit, C32 brakes, later model 17" funnel wheels, carbon fiber hood wrap, quad exhaust, CL grille). They gave me a nice compliment. On the way out I walked around the lot and saw a nice E63 wagon that I would gladly trade straight across for it

to switch off light
2003 C320 - SRS light came on along with 1 malfunction and "take it to the shop" message on the dash. Scanned the car with the OBD reader and there are no codes stored.
Reading through previous threads on the topic it seems that most people recommend taking the car to the dealer since they have the computer that can read the codes correctly. There are several things that can be wrong and most likely it's one of the sensors that is bad, but only the dealer can tell for sure.
Is there anything else that we can do to troubleshoot prior to taking to the dealer to rule out something that can cause the SRS light to come on? For example, I unplugged each wire under the passenger seat one by one and cleaned the contacts with the electronic contact cleaner spray. Reconnected and drove the car for a couple of days but the light is still on. Anything else that one can try first?

Final note on my wiring. I mentioned above that I could see someone had been into the clockspring before and my replacing the clockspring did not clear the SRS light. Next I also needed to replace the windshield wiper switch, and as long as that was out pulled up wiring in the harness and found the previous work had mashed the air bag wiring. Each circuit has a twisted pair of wires and previous jerk mashed it hard enough to press the wires through the insulation so the copper was actually touching. Separated them, taped up the bad spots and packed the wires back in carefully. One more issue fixed on the rescue dog.
But the new wiper switch still did not get the windshield washer to work...
