Lightbulb Rattle when going over bumps/holes

Folks,

Looking for some advice from you's guys am sure i seen somewhere on here someone had same issue but can't find it again.

Basically when i go over small bump/holes on road there's serious annoying rattle from front of car. I know this shouldn't happen in a Mercedes. I changed the lower suspension arms not that long ago and the upper where sound.. Still getting the same noise

Anyone have any other advice that they could give me to check out?

My car: 2001 Mercedes c220 CDI Automatic W203 model.

Many thanks in advance guys!

check your endlinks and control arm bushing and also the sway bar bushing. I'd buy some silicone lubricant spray and spray the moving suspension parts liberally and see if the problem goes away. since your car is an 01 the bushing are probably gone since they're made of rubber. if you havent done that then its probably the culprit.

Hi folks, just bumping this again to see if anyone has any other ideas/advice.
So basically the car has got the all clear from mechanic.. he cant find why it is make these noises when going over gaps in the road.

Ive been thinking... is there anything about the suspension mount that would be making the banging noise?
He checked all the bushings and arms and we have replaced a few already and everything is all good. Just STILL getting noise when going over the smallest of cracks in the road. i DONT get them when going over the likes of speed ramps or anything just small cracks.

All help will be appreciated! Thanks

You can check to make sure the hat is mounted all the way down. Sometimes when doing the struts you have to make sure the locking ring that holds down the hat is fully locked down. If not it will not let the brace that sits on top of the strut go down all the way and will cause a knocking sound going over bumps and dips.

Have you checked the sway bar bushings (the ones that mount the sway bar to the frame)? Mine were worn to the point the bar rattled inside of them. It would clunk over uneven pavement or when going over a speed bump at an angle (would not do it going straight over).

That's why I bought polyurethane bushings for the sway.

Yes probably sway bar links or bushings. Check the strut mount bearings also.

I know this is an old thread and maybe the problem has already been solved, but I too was looking for a remedy for a rattling front brake caliper when going over bumps and found that if I smeared some brake grease/paste on the back of my brake pads the rattle stopped. Maybe this will help someone else who is trying to solve brake rattles. Haynes manual 4780 recommends this when fitting new pads.

Well the above "fix" was only temporary and the rattle returned, but I finally did fix the rattle by cleaning and lubricating (high temp grease) the slide pins of the floating front calipers
