New to the MB world

Hi everyone, just sold my bmw and I grew up working on old chevys. I just got an 01 c320 and LOVE IT!! I know nothing about this car, to tell the truth it was very hard to admit I could not find the dip stick, the I learned how to check the oil level from in side the car. it has 135,xxx miles, can anyone tell me what I should replace. it dose have a squealing belt but the belt is or at least looks new and the sun roof will only open about an inch per button push. can anyone help.

The sunroof is an easy fix, just follow the instructions in this video:

No dipstick for the oil, just have to rely on sensors. I don't know how comfortable I feel about that personally, but I guess we'll see what happens.

Squeaky belt might be the belt slipping. Check all the pulleys up front and the belt itself. In a thread I recently posted, someone advised to change the idler pulley and tensioner (as well as the belt) as peace of mind maintenance. If it goes, you have an expensive repair on your hands.

Check all the fluids, brakes, rotors, and the front end suspension and steering components. Might also be a good idea to service the transmission.

I'm used to working on Mopars, so I know exactly how you feel. Good luck!

Thanks for the video Dave. I ran across this post looking for something else but needed to fix this on my newly acquired 2002 C320.

I'm not too sure, to be honest. My car has the sport package, but it doesn't say sport anywhere. I only know because the owner kept the window sticker when originally purchased, along with a detailed options report on the car. I wonder if running the VIN would bring up what options were selected....

530 C320, If you go to MBUSA's website you can get chat support and give them your vin # and they will email you a sheet right then showing you basically the window sticker for your car.

I have a 2003 and it says Sport.

One of the best resources I would recommend is to create a FREE account here http://epc.startekinfo.com/epc/

After you get a subscription for that site, put your VIN in and select the first button with the icon of the Car for your data card.

Click the SA code to have it decipher all of the codes and on mine I have a code "486 SPORTS SUSPENSION"

one other common thing with the sunroofs is that the tracks get dirty and need cleaned/relubed regularly. MB will prob charge close to $80 just to clean and relube the tracks but you can do it for less than $20.

You will need to get a rag to clean out the track on both sides--you have a track for the sunroof and another for the sunscreen. I used a small screw driver inside the rag to ensure I got as far into the track as i could.
I purchased some soldering brushes so I could lube the track and can't remember off the top of my head what type/brand but also purchased some synthetic water resistant lube/grease.

Initially my sunroof would stop at several different spots because of the resistance but after lubing it up it would open and close all the way with no problems.

2007 C230 Sport manual
I have a 2007 c230 sport sedan with manual transmission and has 220K miles on it. You MUST change the oil every 13,000 miles. You MUST use the proper filter from a MB dealership. It sounds stupid, but that filer is very important. But you can use Moble 1 synthetic from Walmart for half the price.

I have priced wiper blades, bulbs, etc. and MB dealerships truly have the best prices, at least in MI, NJ, NY, OH, and even Greenwhich, CT. But, dealership prices for suspension parts, wheels etc can be pricey so best to go to a trusted local dealer for that stuff. And every dealer I know of will wash and vacuum your car for you whenever you want.

Maybe you won't find this helpful, but people new to MB need to use their dealership. As Reagan used to say, "Trust buy Verify".

It's nice but with the nearest dealership 100 miles away I can wash my car myself, thank you. :- )
I think the online prices for genuine parts are still lower than at the dealership. You don't pay sales tax for one.

Once I needed a radiator drain plug, a $5 part. Paid $12 at the dealership in Houston.
Online the same exact part with shipping was $6...
Don't think the dealer will sell you a pair of windshield wipers for $40...

I wouldn't recommend the stock wiper blades, though. I'm not sure why you're buying the bulbs at the dealership - is it really cheaper?
