Does my mechanic change brake fluid the right way?
Hi everybody,
I started reading here about properly maintaining my car and I am worried the way my independent mechanic does it!
Reading here it seems that for a brake fluid flush you need to let it drain from all corners, but he only does 2 corners and lets it drain? Is that ok too, or is he cutting corners? For some reason my brakes never feel quite right, it takes a lot to stop!
Also, how much brake fluid do I need for a flush, is 1 litar/quart enough?
Thanks

To do a total flush you need to remove ALL the fluid from the system. This includes all the brake lines. The best way I know to do this is with a device like this:
Or something like it. Look for pressure brake bleeders or vacuum brake bleeders.
I have heard others say to crack the bleed screw and let it drain on its own. Never seen this work worth a crap.

Folks have good results with Motive Power bleeders.
1 liter of fluid should be enough and you should still have some left.
You might have air in the system (or cheap pads) reducing the effectiveness of brakes.
