2004 C240 CD changer not recognizing discs

For 9 years, my 6 disc changer operated flawlessly - then gradually it would not recognize discs, displaying the message "NO CD1" (or 2 or 3, etc).

I normally use CDs that I burn from the originals (so if my stereo ever gets stolen, I'm only out duplicates and not the original discs) - plus, I also listen to a lot of custom discs I make. The changer will recognize and play factory CDs just fine.

I'm baffled to why this occurred and would like to know what can be done to correct the problem.

Does it happen even with the newly-burnt disks?
Probably some dirt/dust on the laser lens, or the laser has weakened over 9 years.
I understand the factory CDs are generally higher quality and easier to read than CD-Rs.

It does happen with newly burned discs. I have experimented with recording at every speed.

Think a laser lens cleaner would help?

I'd give it a try...
If that doesn't work you may want to look into buying a used CDC unit (e.g. https://mbworld.org/forums/mobile-el...d-changer.html)

THE C350
taiyo yuden (JVC) is my current go to brand you can get on amazon for decent price I have also used TDK that worked but Taiyo Yuden is much much better

Amazon.com: Taiyo Yuden/JVC - 100 x CD-R - 700 MB ( 80min ) 52x - ink jet printable surface - spindle - storage media: Electronics Amazon.com: Taiyo Yuden/JVC - 100 x CD-R - 700 MB ( 80min ) 52x - ink jet printable surface - spindle - storage media: Electronics

This is the one I buy I have gone through 2 or 3 spindles and never had a coaster
The two TDK spindles I have gone through have probably 3 or 4 coasters and same with most other brands they all seam to be crap made by CMC (I have heard that CMC can make CD-r's finally but I wouldn't trust them personally)
