(W203) Hollow Sounding Suspension Noise

Hi All,

I get an extended hollow resonance from the rear when driving slowly in wet conditions over pot holes, or any thing that causes the rear left (drivers side) tire to compress upward. I must stress this only happens when its wet, and I drive slowly.

I have already had the rear sway links replaced, and the shop says that they have never heard anything like that from a suspension before. What could it be?

I have uploaded videos of the sound on YouTube. One video is the sound heard from within the cabin, and the second is of the sound heard from within the trunk.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGvx...ature=youtu.be

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Can you take a look at the rear coil springs. ALSO, they tend to break at the bottom where you can't see it; you might have to put a finger in there to see if you feel a broken spring/coil in the mount.

Just a thought. In my case, the coil was broken and intermittently rattled. MAYBE yours is rubbing intermittently?

Just a guess.

They said the springs are fine.

The shop thinks that the rear sway bar bushings are worn. They think that when the rear suspension goes through torsion over dips, and there is moisture between the bushings and bar, it resonates. Is this plausible?

Thank-you.

I should mention that I also have a clunking over slight variations in the road, and this happens all the time. I was told it was a worn shock that needs to be replace. I am having trouble deciding whether to go with the OEM Sachs, or Bilstein TC. What is the boards preference, and why?

Thanks.

[SOLVED] The hollow sound, and clunking noise were both coming from a worn factory shock. I replaced both the back shocks with Bilstein TC's. I've been driving on them for about 4 months, and the ride is great.
