Talking FNG with Oil Question

Just got this car last year, glad to be a part of the MBWorld!

question is, I have got the oil replaced a couple times at a local automotive shop that specializes in foreign cars, the first receipt said 8 quarts now the new invoice says 9 quarts. since he has been changing my oil there has been a smell of burning oil coming from the manifold. where it is leaking is unknown, since I cant see behind the motor.

is he setting me up by over filling the oil so I will have to replace the seals or something? any help is greatly appreciated.

I think 9 quarts might be too much. Only way I think to find out where the burning smell is coming from is to open the hood and remove the plastic engine cover and go over it with a flash light very carefully. Maybe oil is leaking onto the exhaust manifold and being burnt off. Just my 2 cents, but hopefully someone else can chime in and help you out. I think its a good idea to buy a oil dipstick like I did. It will tell you exactly how much oil you have in MM. Good luck.

P.S. I like those wheels you got, they look really sharp man.

9 quarts is quite a lot. My car takes just over 8 quarts, but you do have a different engine than mine, so I could be wrong. Also, if the oil were overfilled, the car would have warned you. Check to make sure the oil filter is twisted on tightly, I'm not sure where it's located on your engine, but on mine it's right on top of the engine, and mine was loose one time, thus, it had oil leaking out.

Also, beautiful car. I love those late year C230s!

Thank you guys for the reply. I will check tonight when I get home. I was going to paint the wheels black on monday but thought that would be racist, so I held off. Maybe sometime soon. But first I gotta get this key fob working.

Yes, the oil overfilled idiot light would come on. My guess is that they're either rounding up to 9 or overcharging you, take your pick.
The burning oil thing could be slot of things. Look for discoloration after you remove the silly engine bay plastic covers. My issue has been a leaking valve cover gasket.
