For quite some time now my 2005 c230 Kompressor has been making a loud whining sound when it runs. I mean people know when I get home from work because they can hear the car coming through the neighborhood.

Through the search feature here on the site it seems this is most likely related to a the a/c compressor or the a/c pully. I took the car into PepBoys since they are located next door to where I work, they seem to think it's the a/c compressor.

I wanted to see what others here might think, as they wanted 2500.00 to replace it. So I really wanted another option, as if it is the pully, that is much easier/cheaper to fix.

- The sound is steady, all the time, with a/c on or off.
- The a/c works fine, ice cold actually, cools the car fast
- The faster I go, the louder it seems to get.

If anyone else has run into this I would appreciate some feedback, don't want to drop 2500 unless I have to.

I would check PS fluid
Also remove belt and see if you can find any issues as well as start car to make sure the noise stops.

I'm with Trey, that sounds like every bad PS pump I've ever heard.

It.has.nothing.to do with air conditioning. Its your smog air pump

Secondary air pump only runs for a minute or so after starting the car. If the noise continues even after driving several minutes, then it can't be secondary air pump.

question: is there a possibility it could be the nose bearing in the supercharger? it is spinning at a much faster rpm
