Broken grip rail (or grab handle)

Dear friends of MB forum.

I have recently purchased a C200K (Kompressor) Station wagon and noticed when I close the right side (driver's) door the grip handle pulls out of its socket at the top of the handle. I see it fits into a socket. I am told it is a common fault with these models.

When you buy a replacement handle ($135 do you get the socket that the handle fits into or is the socket part of the driver's door). I wondered if I dropped a bit of glue on the socket would I fix the problem without having to spend the better part of $350.00 to repair it.

Being of sound mind, (and that why I purchased the car), but on the other hand only a pensioner you will understand why I have to watch my expenditure.

I would appreciate your advise on this matter.
Regards
Gary Thompson

Gary, do a search. I think that some people have posted that they were able to glue the door pulls back together. But then it's only a matter of time until that stops working, though.

Check with US Benz sites for parts as well; even with the shipping, it may be cheaper to buy from the US - I think you Aussies tend to get hosed on prices, if my memory serves. Always ebay too - you never know. Good luck!

My first thought for mine (it still isn't fixed yet) was to bolt or screw it from the back. If you have any spare hardware around, see if you can pull off the door panel and secure it from there. With a bit of glue I'm sure you can make it work.

I changed my right front passenger door grab handle because it cracked as you described. I changed it last year. The drivers handle is now cracked as well, and will change it today. I bought the parts on eBay for about $40 USD. I didn't have to remove the door card completely to get to it...entire job took about an hour. On a 1 - 10 scale on difficulty, 10 being the most difficult, I give it a 3.

Both the front driver and passenger grab handles have broken on my c240 and I'm planning on trying to replace myself. I just joined this forum even though I've perused many times before. Thanks for the link above, super helpful!

You can just glue it back to the broken piece without removing the door panel. I added some epoxy to make sure. But don't make it too thick otherwise the handle top part will not fit in.

I did that on the passenger side and it has held up so far, but when I tried the same thing on the driver's side, I wasn't as successful. Plus the driver's side gets way more use, so I'd like to make the repair as sturdy as possible.

I'm having trouble pinning down the exact part number I'll need, partially because the helpful install guide linked above is for a 2002 (mine is an '03) & also because I can't determine the color code (as i'm at my desk at work right now and not able to run out and look a the actual car).

I used Gorilla glue on my driver side handle and it's been holding up for a year now.

For me, I just glued it. I did that for about 5 years and I finally gave up and bought one on eBay for $40. In my opinion, it just looked newer and I didn't have the trouble of gluing it every couple years.

Thx for manual.
For Keyless front connector question; cannot reach it, it's not so close, maybe with some small pliers or by hand?
