Do any performance chips really work for the c230?
Hi All;
Have been researching performance chips for our car for weeks now. Can't seem to find one that I feel confident that will actually work.
Looked through dozens of threads, ebay pages, etc., and I still cannot find anything. Think I may have have seen something about a Renntech chip though..
Please let me know if you all have any suggestions about chips, if there are in that actually work. Thank you in advance!
Questions/suggestions/comments/criticisms welcomed!

Do not trust any of the ebay "performance chip" that say you will gain 50+ hp.
Try these, or go with a custom tunes at a motorsports shop.

Not knowing what Mercedes you have limits the ability of anyone to answer your question well. What year is your C230?
In general, Eurocharged/OEMTuning work pretty well for the 2002 C230 by goosing up the boost in the SC (I was happy with the OEM tune); later C230s are limited by the crappy engine and its ceiling for potential gains, though the economics are determined by your pockets; the minimal gains might be worth it to you for the $300 price tag. It's a toss up. You could probably do better with concentrating on handling, lighter rims, stickier tires, etc., but that's a decision you'd have to make.

C230 COUPE 2003 M271
With the age of our cars, and I know especially mine, I am more worried about passing emissions testing when it comes up and any time the check engine light comes on wondering if it was caused by tuning outside factory design. At this point I have opted to just save the money because even a real world 30hp gain is probably only realised at the highest rpm which I never use anyways.

If you stick with the reliable tuning companies, there's no chance of emission problems.
Where's the fun in not revving your car?

I had my 2003 C230 'chipped' twice. The second time was by Kleemann. There was a noticeable difference both times. Not sure if the price has come down, but it was quite expensive back when the car was new.
