C280 camshaft sensor or chainbelt?
Hey guys! Haha. Well I need advice, last two or three months my "check engine" light has been comming on and off. Sometimes it's on then it's off. Sometimes it stays on for 3 days or so and goes away for a week or so. You know. So I took it in and we ran a scan on the car. I think the check engine error code was like c072 or soemthing like that. So they searched the code and it stated it's a camshaft problem. Either the sensor going Rogue or the chainbelt is wearing. My mechanic said based on his experience with this code it has usually been the chain. And the sensor sometimes. The chain repair /replace is $5000. But my car is at 85,000kms how can the chain wear out so fast?? He said it's either the sensor or the chain. He said I should replace sensor first. And if check engine comes back on then it's the chain for sure. He also added "if it is the chain then sell the car because mercedes benz quality has went down the drain. I see to many problems with bmw Mercedes and Audi's they are not what they once were". So guys any advice? Do you think it's the chain or the sensor? I am worried alot. Have you guys ever had this?

NOTE: my car is running smoothly without any weird noises in transmission gear changing or getting up to. Speed and such.
