What is a "M.E." motor electronic?

What the thread says. I would like to know what exactly an M.E. Motor Electronic is. Is it the ECU?

Yes. Your engine control unit.

It is the system identifier for the level of electronic engine components designed for your car and yes the ECU is at the heart of the system!!

So if I were to replace my M.E. and I had my car programmed to BiXenon = Present would I need to reprogram my ECU? Or would that not affect the presence of BiXenons?

Peter you sound like you recently visited "kiddy benz" and soaked up some HS.

With MB's it is suggested all part additions are done by the VIN therefore if you replace your ECU you best do it via a VIN conformation.

The Bi Xenon is a totally different issue and once again best done via your VIN

By "kiddy benz" I think you're referring to the dealer, and yes that is true. Had my cam sensors leak all over my wiring harness and EM or whatever the F its called. Thing is I have bixenons retrofitted and wanted to know if I have to tell them to reflash my ECU with xenon present. Because if they flash my car using the original packages of my VIN# bixenons were not installed.

I have no idea how your car was rewired to accomodate the bixenons. However the dealer will know of the refit once they place you VIN in the diagnostic\VIN database.

Yes I would mention the refit even though your engine ECU is not typically in the bixenon system!!

Programming the bi-xenon option requires going through the menus in the Star and changing the "bi-xenon present" option from "no" to "yes". It is not VIN dependent. Every single car (that has a HID option, which afaik is pretty much every modern MB) can have this done. The biggest problem you'll come across is finding a tech at the dealer who's willing to flip this switch in the software for you. A restaurant gift card is especially helpful in such situations.

The BiXenons have nothing to do with my wiring harness and cam sensor issue. I needed a new M.E. which is part of the ECU and was wondering if that would cause issues for my bixenon retrofit. But it was all sorted out and reflashed.

not a merc
Simple answer NO. ME is motor electronics and it controls the engine only. There many other ECUs fitted to your car which handle different systems. Xenon bixenon whatever has no effect on the flashing of the engine ECU.
