PLEASE READ...Dealer told me 240HP???

I went to see my dealer today to get my First Aid kit for the car.. They did not have one on delivery of my car.. Anyways we were going over the engine when i noticed that there are 2 Air intakes in the front of the car.. One goes in to the Air Filter, but the other one is closed or covered off...

Now why did they close the 2nd Air inlet for the engine?? I think it goes in to the Intercooler but i am not sure... Now the dealer told me if that Air inlet was open he said the car would be making 240HP?? Now i am not sure if thats true or not.. I don't think he knew what he was talking about..

So does any one know why that 2nd Air intake to the engine is closed OFF...

Your dealer is a freakin' idiot. The other air intake is used for the V-6 engines. Opening it on the coupe will serve no purpose. The reason it is closed is because it doesn't attach to anything.

Opening it would probably increase air flow around your engine. So if you want to clean it more often, open it. Though I'm sure someone somewhere will claim that opening it will lower the engine temp by 10-degrees and hence cause a 0.1 increase in HP.

If you open the air duct up it could also foul up the air flow under the hood and could cause the engine to run hotter sence the fan would draw air from around the radiator and not through it.

lowering you engine temp.

Mark Cummins opened his up for better ventilation. Maybe it's because we live a hot arrid desert and it helps. I don't know but don't fix anything that ain't broke.

See if he'll put it in writing and then if you don't like your car, dyno it, no 240HP and sue.

Thumbs down

Talking about freakin' idiots. Around 10 years ago my daughter and I went to a VW dealer to buy her a Golf. The sticker on the Golf read 1.6 liter engine. When I opened the hood just to take a look, the engine was stamped with "1.5 L." I asked this idiot why the difference. His answer was that liters are different over there than over here!

It turned out that VW increased the displacement for USA exports, but kept the same home grown engine block.

imbecile salesman

The best I've ever heard was in a shopping mall display many years ago, there was a Merkur XR4TI there with a Ford salesman nearby. I was glancing at the Pinto engine they'd put in the car for the US/CDN market and the salesman accosted me:
"She's nice, eh?"
"It's built by BMW in Germany you know."
I pointed out the manufacturer's sticker that said it was built by Ford Werke AG in Köln, told the salesman he was an idiot and walked on.

Never have I seen so many outrageous statements said by car salesmen as I have since joining this forum. Do salesmen really say these outlandish things?!?

Before getting the C230, I looked at both an RSX Type S and a CL Type S. Concerned about the need to rev high on the RSX to get power out of it, I asked the salesperson, "What is the torque curve like on the CL?"

Response by salesperson, "Oh, I don't think that the CL is available with a torque curve."

Oh yes, Dave they say these things. About 15 years ago, I had to take a van from work to the Dodge dealer for some repairs. I arrived early and was sitting in the showroom and they were having a sales meeting before the showroom opened. The sales manager told the salesmen to compare the Dodge 600 sedan (one of the worst built cars ever, bad even by Chrysler's standards) to compare the car faovoabley to the Mercedes E-class, even if they had to lie. They promptly stated a role playing exercise to practice their lies. This was in front of about five customers who had just dropped off their cars for service or repair. At an other Dodge dealer, I was told that the Dodge badged Mitsubishi Starion was made in the USA to outperform any Ferrari ever built.

There are many sales people who will not lie. But some of them are not familiar with their merchandise and spread misinformation because they heard it from someone they think knows or they are too lazy too learn. Also with all the models at most dealerships, it is hard to keep all the features straight.

Fifteen years ago, Dodge and the Chrysler Corporation were a stone's throw away from bankruptcy. I can certainly see why they would so blantantly lie, they were desperate. Those salemen you saw weren't just trying to sell the crappy 600, they were trying to save their own careers.
Nowadays, the salesmen who lie are just dummies. Mercedes salesmen shouldn't even have to lie, the cars sell themselves. Now, if i were a Daewoo salesman.......
