C270 unexpected whining/moaning noise

Right, today on my way back from work just few min into the drive I was waiting to pull into the gap in the traffic, I have accelerated quite hard to get through and discovered that the engine started to make kind of a whining or a moaning noise

It is evident at 1500rpm and then I assume engine gets too loud to notice the whining.

I checked and this seems to happen when putting any load onto the engine when parked or accelerating. Has anybody got any ideas? I am worried it is something serious but cannot go to the garage as yet.

Based upon what you have stated----My guess is a torque converyter whining for fluid---- when was the last time you checked your fluid

I bought the car only recently and it had a service done by the dealer but I am not sure if that included fluid.

My question is, how can i check it and what is the average use of the fluid under normal driving conditions?

Average use should be zero unless it's leaking! You need special tool dipstick to check level

Loud Whining which you can hear when revving the car stationary is a sign of Torque converter failure. The 722.6 transmission makes a natural low speed whine which is the transmission oil pump on the input shaft & normal. Check Fluid level.

If you want to make your own dipstick

Thanks guys, I will get that checked as soon as possible.

Just out of curiosity...how much of a big job is torque converter replacement?

Thanks for your help gents, probably the last thing I want to ask is how gentle/delicate the torque converter in a C270 actually is, I have quite a heavy foot sometimes, especially in traffic and I don't want to replace it every 5000 miles (exaggerated of course).
