spare ign coils for troubleshooting
Just swapped out my BERU coils as part of routine maintenance, if anyone wants spare coil(s) for troubleshooting or to use as a paper weight let me know. No driveability issues related, purely preventative maintenance.
Let me know...

Did you install MB ones? My car has one Beru one and three originals apparently.
How does one check a coil BTW?
Plug in, install a spark plug in it, touch to ground and while cranking check for spark?

Checking coils is not really doable 100%...even the WIS procedure only allows for checking the primary winding. I just figured at 145k and 11 years they could use a break. BERU is OEM supplier, that's what mine had and that's what I replaced them with. The BERU coils from the dealer are gonna have the mb star somewhere on the stem, while the same coils from aftermarket suppliers will have the star ground off for obvious reasons.
If you're not having driveability issues then your coils are prolly OK. Sometimes a spare coil comes in handy to eliminate a cylinder when chasing down poor idle etc

yea, you can use a multimeter and measure ohms in the primary windings but that's about it and even then it wont really tell you if its bad or not. Not unless its been destroyed.

Ok, thanks guys.
Runs fine, just thinking ahead on this one... 153k miles, and ignition system has not been touched since at least 100k, so I am assuming the plugs had been changed around 90k as per maint. schedule. Next change at 180k?
