A Question About Fluid Specifications/Approvals

Hello All,

I'm going to do a transfer case fluid change and need to get the correct fluid. I've read that it is ATF, same fluid as in the trans (722.6, car is an '05 C240 4matic wagon w/99k miles).

I used Fuchs 4134 for the trans flush and it works great. According to Fuchs' website it had MB's 236.14 approval and is backwards compatible with the 236.12 that my car requires.

Now, the transfer case requires 236.13 fluid. Can I assume that the Fuchs 4134, with it's 236.14 approval, can be used in the transfer case as well?

How do these approval numbers work anyway?

Thanks for the help, especially yours Glyn!
