2002 c200 switching between W and S

I have a 2002 c200 Kompresspr and the past couple of weeks I've noticed it at times to be a bit gutless. On both accounts I've noticed it has switched from S to W without me actually choosing to do so. Is this normal? We have had a lot of rain here and at times I have lost traction driving.

My understanding is that S gives you more push because the gear change occurs at higher rpm whereas W gives you a smoother slower take off and gear changes occur at a lower rpm. I don't think it affects traction while you are cruising.

Maybe I worded that wrong. I know the difference between the 2 but I'm unsure as to why my car is just switching from S to W without me actually choosing the button? It's happened twice. I'm keeping an eye on it now to see if or when it happens again.

Is there a chance you pushed the button by accident. There is no good reason for it to change by itself.

My understanding is that S gives you more push because the gear change occurs at higher rpm whereas W gives you a smoother slower take off and gear changes occur at a lower rpm. I don't think it affects traction while you are cruising.

S is standard mode (starts in first gear) W is weather mode (starts in second gear) Some MB even have 2 revers gears so when in W mode you can back up without spinning the tires.

In my son's W204, the fefault setting is E. So whenever you switch 0ff and on the engine, it goes to E even if you have set it at S for driving.
I don't see any such options in the settings for my W203. It stays at S or C (W in the older models) as set manually.
