The rounded part nearest the pump has to squeeze in. Try pushing the line in a little to relieve tension, the squeeze down on the clip part of the line and pull it off.

Hope it's not too late, but strongly suggest putting tie wraps on both
lines on install.
After I did mine, my mechanic mentioned this, and I said 'oh well' the job is done.
Drove it for about a week, and (lucky for me) it died just around the corner from my house, after a long drive to the coast and back up dark roads with few people and no cell reception as well....
Since no one sells the damn tool locally I had borrowed one from Autozone,
but had already returned it.
Borrowed it again, opened up the tank and sure enough, the hose was just hanging.
Reinstalled and tie wrapped tightly around the hoses at where it clips, no problems (at least with that) since. When purchasing the tie wraps they had ones made of various types of plastic. Forget what they were labelled but went for ones that wouldn't be affected by the fuel. Also got the tie wrap tool to pull it tight.
Now I keep a Lisle tank tool in the car, the tie wraps and tool...just in case.
