Cool C230 K out of production !

It is now waiting to be shipped. What has been the experience of the membership as to the time involved for shipping to the US? Also, why on earth would it arrive in Los Angeles coming from Germany ? You would think it would arrive at an east coast port.

I think it's because they are really made in Korea and are shipped across the pacific. That would explain the Hundai like headlights and dependability.

I can't help it. Tomorrow it goes in for the 3rd time for the same problem (or the sixth repair in total). I know that it's an insult to Hundai's, Dawoos and Kia's out there so I'm sorry. I will never compare my unreliable MB to a Korean car again. Hey are Lada's off limits too?

All ccoupes are made in the Fatherland. I think that some c sedans are made there, though.

As far as the original question (I thought this thread was about the 230k engine being discontinued when I clicked on it), I have no idea. Aren't they usually only shipped to MD or CA? If that's the case, then I can see how a TX dealer's cars might be shipped that way. Might also just be easier for them due to shipping scheduling or some internal logistic policy. Your dealer should be able to give you a rough estimate of delivery time.

Thanks tommy. I remembered reading here about cars being made in Brazil, but I wasn't sure which ones. I know my sedan comes from the "Fatherland" as well!

I bought my c230 in Texas, and it's port was Jacksonville, FL. Perhaps that's because I'm in east Texas.

BTW, my car before the C230 was a Hyundai Elantra. 50,000 miles and the only problem was a cracked window switch.

That really would be the long way around the planet. The Panama Canal route would be much, much shorter.

Ted, I thought most of the Southern deliveries came through Jacksonville, FL, also, but don't really know for sure. (I believe my car went through Jacksonville, for delivery in St. Louis.)

I suspect they will send it on wichever ship leaves the earliest and has space aboard. Once it hits US shores, it processes through the VPC quickly and is put on a truck for your delivery location within just a couple of days.

Your salesperson should be able to tell you what ship, port of entry, etc. if you call and ask. Just tell him/her you're curious.

BTW, where in TX do you live? Dallas area?

2002 Mercedes-Benz C230 Kompressor Sports Coupe
It is substantially lower cost to have a boat deliver the car to the west coast (through panama canal) than to deliver it to the east coast and then truck it across the entire country.

BTW, MB ships ALL C230K Sport Coupes from Germany (none so far from Brazil). That puts them on a northern Atlantic route, covering 1/4 of the world's circumference to get to the east coast and little less than 1/2 to get to the west coast. Going back into the mediterranean and through the suez canal is would crazy, requiring the boat trave 2/3 of the world's circumference and then some.

This also makes sense in that they can use the same shipping boat. It can make a stop in the east coast, and then continue to west coast. I'm sure that option, while not always used, has been used in times of low shipping volume.

Hyundai's are pretty good cars. Don't forget that DaimlerChrysler owns 10% of Hyundai.
