05 Comand Upgrade...Anyone know????

HI All,

Turns out guru Steve still does not know the answer to this one so I am appealing to the masses. Does anyone know if the DVD Comand can be installed on an 05 230 if I do not already have it? Any help would be most appreciated.

No one has tried it and because the fiber system is different, ??????? I am not going to try it as my components (lots of them) are all d2b interfaced. If you have a empty car with out bose, teleaid, phone, VCS, then you can try it yourself and take a risk. Also, there is a audio gateway in the new cars. Not sure what that is. Scorchie can shed some light on this.

I get the feeling that my question was not entirely understood. I am not looking to retrofit a DVD Command to an earlier car. What I want to know is if I can install an 05 Command on an 05 C230 that was ordered with the standard in dash CD player.

Yes, you can definitely do this. However, we are not sure what parts are all required to do it yet. And, unless a good source is found for these parts, it will be VERY expensive to do. I heard that the dealerships will be able to do this update (in the US on US-spec cars) at a reasonable price, but we'll have to see how it happens.

I worked with Steve on retrofitting a ECE-spec W211 with Audio 20 to COMAND with DVD-nav... it was a lot of work and a lot of parts, but it did work in the end. It included an audio gateway, navigation unit, several complete wiring harnesses, GPS antenna, and so on. The C-class will have it slightly easier because of integration of some components.

The DVD based comand ought to be an easy retrofit in an 05 W203 as it is a part listed under the "modification" section in the EPC meaning that even MB dealerships can do it...however...these comands are EXPENSIVE and only come with a ridiculous low discount percentage...hence the reason why I didn't bother to get one yet...

What do you consider "expensive"? I'm sure some would be willing to pay a pretty penny for this upgrade.

I am VERY interested to see if this pricing is indeed accurate. Guru Steve got back to me with a price of around $3700 for the Comand unit. I'm a little stuck because I just found out that in Canada where I live Comand is only available on the 320 and not the 230 or the 240 so it looks like no matter what it is going to be a retrofit.
